RUTLEDGE, Ian

Ian Rutledge is an economist and historian with a special interest in Energy and the Middle East.

He is a partner in SERIS (Sheffield Energy & Resources Information Services) and an Honorary Senior Research Fellow in the Sheffield University Management School.

Ian graduated in Economics and Social Science in the University of Cambridge in 1968 and received his PhD in 1973. He has taught both economics and sociology in the Universities of London and Sheffield, as well as spending three years working for British Coal Corporation. He is fluent in Spanish and has a working knowledge of Arabic and French…ian-rut-headshotOver the past 15 years Ian has authored or co-authored 3 books in the field of Economic History, 25 papers in scholarly journals including Cambridge Journal of Economics, Energy Policy and the Journal of Energy Literature and 23 articles in national newspapers and professional and trade journals.

Ian is currently working on his latest publishing project – Enemy on the Euphrates: Oil, War and the Great Arab Revolt of 1920.
