SWIFT, Emma

E J Swift is a writer specialising in fantasy and Science-Fiction. She wrote her first novel, Falling Ash, before university, and since then has developed her style through a variety of projects including short stories and scriptwriting.

Whilst studying for her BA, she was involved with the Manchester In-Fringe Theatre Festival, co-writing and directing The Installation, a piece about clinical depression, in 2005. Emma spent eighteen months living and working in Paris before returning to London to complete the MA in Creative Writing Programme at Royal Holloway, when she wrote her most recent novel, Osiris.ejs-headshotOsiris is a futuristic ocean metropolis whose citizens believe they live in the last city on earth. The story follows the interlocking paths of a third generation climate refugee, and the architect’s granddaughter. Emma is now beginning work on a second novel which will explore the world outside Osiris.

Radically altered by climate change, the northern and southern hemispheres have become two entirely separate entities on either side of a vast desert belt. In this world, Osiris is known as “the lost city”. Emma is also developing plans for a fantastical story set in Paris.
