UK Cover and Details for Brandon Sanderson’s OATHBRINGER!

Above is the recently-unveiled, striking cover for OATHBRINGER, the third novel in Brandon Sanderson‘s critically-acclaimed, best-selling Stormlight Archives epic fantasy series! Due to be published in the UK by Gollancz in November, here’s the synopsis…

Humanity faces a new Desolation with the return of the Voidbringers, a foe whose numbers are as great as their thirst for vengeance.

The Alethi armies commanded by Dalinar Kholin won a fleeting victory at a terrible cost: The enemy Parshendi summoned the violent Everstorm, and now its destruction sweeps the world and its passing awakens the once peaceful and subservient parshmen to the true horror of their millennia-long enslavement by humans. While on a desperate flight to warn his family of the threat, Kaladin Stormblessed must come to grips with the fact that their newly kindled anger may be wholly justified.

Nestled in the mountains high above the storms, in the tower city of Urithiru, Shallan Davar investigates the wonders of the ancient stronghold of the Knights Radiant and unearths the dark secrets lurking in its depths. And Dalinar realizes that his holy mission to unite his homeland of Alethkar was too narrow in scope. Unless all the nations of Roshar can put Dalinar’s blood-soaked past aside and stand together — and unless Dalinar himself can confront that past — even the restoration of the Knights Radiant will not avert the end of civilization.

Gollancz has also published the first two novels in the series: THE WAY OF KINGS and WORDS OF RADIANCE. Gollancz has also published Brandon’s fan-favourite modern classic, the Mistborn series (currently at six novels).

BANDS OF MOURNING, bound in paper…

sanderson-m6-bandsofmourninguk

The paperback edition of Brandon Sanderson‘s BANDS OF MOURNING is out today in the UK. Published by Gollancz, here’s the synopsis…

The Mistborn trilogy has become a firm favourite with fantasy fans the world over. The imagination that Sanderson brought to the series and his skill at marshalling epic storylines and dramatic action, his ability to create vivid characters made him a natural choice to complete Robert Jordan’s epic wheel of time sequence. But with Mistborn, Sanderson has shown his bountiful talents in his own fiction. Now he returns to the series that made his name with a new story…

The Bands of Mourning are the mythical metalminds owned by the Lord Ruler, said to grant anyone who wears them the powers that the Lord Ruler had at his command. Hardly anyone thinks they really exist. A kandra researcher has returned to Elendel with images that seem to depict the Bands, as well as writings in a language that no one can read. Waxillium Ladrian is recruited to travel south to the city of New Seran to investigate. Along the way he discovers hints that point to the true goals of his uncle Edwarn and the shadowy organization known as The Set.

The new Mistborn books move the series into a richly imagined 19th century analogue world with elements of the wild west mixed with magic and science. It’s a wonderful concoction from a master storyteller.

Gollancz has published all six novels in the Mistborn series (so far): THE FINAL EMPIRE, THE WELL OF ASCENSION, THE HERO OF AGES, THE ALLOY OF LAW, SHADOWS OF SELF and THE BANDS OF MOURNING. Gollancz have also published a pair of stand-alone novels, the Reckoners series, the Stormlight Archive series, and a selection of Brandon’s novellas.

Sanderson’s Reckoners face off against CALAMITY tomorrow in the UK!

sanderson-r3-calamityuk

Tomorrow sees the release of the paperback edition of Brandon Sanderson‘s third Reckoners novel, CALAMITY! Published by Gollancz, here’s the synopsis…

They told David it was impossible — that even the Reckoners had never killed a High Epic. Yet, Steelheart — invincible, immortal, unconquerable — is dead. And he died by David’s hand.

Eliminating Steelheart was supposed to make life more simple. Instead, it only made David realize he has questions. Big ones. And there’s no one in Newcago who can give him the answers he needs.

He found some of those answers in FIREFIGHT. Now, he has to decide what to do with them…

Calamity is about what you do to fill your heart once you have vengeance.

Here’s a selection of reviews the novel has enjoyed…

‘A whirl of raids, chases, rescues, and spectacularly destructive displays of both magic and high-tech gadgetry ensues, bringing David face to face with Calamity… Adeptly done.’Kirkus

‘Sanderson creates a well-balanced novel of character development, frightening revelations and dramatic fights to ensure the reader is hooked into the storyline and creates a satisfying conclusion… an excellent and tense conclusion to a remarkable fantasy series.’Starburst

CALAMITY represents another strong installment in the series… a really enjoyable series with good action, characters, worldbuilding and revelations. Even when juggling multiple series, Sanderson remains a master of the craft.’Fantasy Faction

‘Those who really love thoughtful, action-packed superhero stories will be delighted by Sanderson’s masterful take on the genre. It’s an odd, intriguing but superlative mashup of superhero and post-apocalypse storytelling.’SF Revu

Brandon Sanderson’s MISTBORN: A SECRET HISTORY Out Now in the UK

Sanderson-MistbornASecretHistoryUK

Gollancz has published a new eBook novella by Brandon SandersonMISTBORN: A SECRET HISTORY is, as the name suggests, a companion novella set in the author’s best-selling and fan-favourite Mistborn series. Here’s the synopsis…

Mistborn: Secret History builds upon the characterization, events, and worldbuilding of the original trilogy. Reading it without that background will be a confusing process at best.

In short, this isn’t the place to start your journey into Mistborn (though if you have read the trilogy – but it has been a while – you should be just fine, so long as you remember the characters and the general plot of the books).

Saying anything more here risks revealing too much. Even knowledge of this story’s existence is, in a way, a spoiler.

There’s always another secret.

The publisher’s website does offer a warning, though: ‘it contains HUGE SPOILERS for the books Mistborn (The Final Empire), The Well of Ascension, and The Hero of Ages. It also contains very minor spoilers for the book The Bands of Mourning.’

The novella will also appear in print in Brandon’s upcoming ARCANUM UNBOUND anthology, due to be published in the UK by Gollancz on November 10th, 2016. We’ll share full details and the cover for the anthology as soon as we have it. Although, an early (possibly draft) audiobook cover image is visible on Gollancz’s website:

Aliette de Bodard‘s THE HOUSE OF SHATTERED WINGS

A superb murder mystery, on an epic scale, set against the fall out — literally — of a war in heaven

Paris in the aftermath of the Great Magicians War. Its streets are lined with haunted ruins, Notre-Dame is a burnt-out shell, and the Seine runs black, thick with ashes and rubble. Yet life continues among the wreckage. The citizens retain their irrepressible appetite for novelty and distraction, and The Great Houses still vie for dominion over France’s once grand capital.

Within the House, three very different people must come together: a naive but powerful Fallen, an alchemist with a self-destructive addiction, and a resentful young man wielding spells from the Far East. They may be Silverspires’ salvation; or the architects of its last, irreversible fall…

Caught in the crossfire, the rich and unprotected duchy of Lakton sits ripe for conquest. All the while, the corelings have grown stronger — and without Arlen and Jardir, none may be able to stop them.
