‘[A] cracking adventure with monsters galore… perhaps the most epic and has some touching – and dark – moments.’Fantasy Hive

    • ELFLAND
      +

‘This dreamlike, nuanced and sensual novel is reminiscent of the best of early Charles de Lint and is compulsively readable. Rose is a memorable, unique and wholly sympathetic protagonist, and the supporting cast is equally well drawn. The story of Rose and Sam is compelling, enchanting and utterly enthralling. This is simply one of the best fantasy novels of the year.’  —  RT Book Reviews

ELFLAND… is an exhilarating, wondrous read. The scope of the imagination is breathtaking, as is Ms. Warrington’s evocative writing… a fabulous, remarkable, literary modern fairy tale. Absolutely recommended…’  —  Book Smugglers

‘… a distinctive spin on human/nonhuman relations in this sensuous, relationship-driven story… Solid wordplay, great pacing and a thrilling conclusion will definitely earn Warrington some new American fans.’  —  Publishers Weekly

‘[I was] swept away in the beauty and magic of Elfland and may have shed a few tears over the wonderful, not quite fairytale ending.’  —  Bibliosanctum

ELFLAND had compelling characters, some beautiful prose and a fascinating world. The fantasy aspect of the story does mostly take a backseat to the characters and their dramas, but their story made this book nearly impossible to put down… one of those books that immediately gripped me and never let go until it was finished. It kept me up reading later than I should be and kept returning to my thoughts when I wasn’t reading it, and I will definitely be reading more by Freda Warrington.’  —  Fantasy Book Cafe

‘… superb prose and great characters.’  —  Fantasy Book Critic

    • MIDSUMMER NIGHT
      +

‘… unlike the urban fantasy books that have taken over most of the fantasy section, this is old school fantasy. Magic that’s full of awe and wonder. It reminds you why we love this kind of story in the first place… Each book [MIDSUMMER NIGHT and ELFLAND] is a stand-alone volume and an absolute delight… I have a lot of fun with the kinds of fantasy/supernatural books that dominate the field at the moment, but none of them can match a novel such as either of these two — for storytelling that takes you where you don’t expect to go, and for that exquisite sense of wonder that makes the heart of this old reader sing.’  —  Charles de Lint

‘Delicate as gossamer, rich as darkest chocolate… a delicious, delectable, ravishing concoction of a book that fills the senses and satisfies the dreaming mind…’  —  Kari Sperring

‘A sumptuous contemporary fantasy, rich with mysterious characters, romance and intrigue.  Beautifully written, a delight to read.’  —  Justina Robson

‘… moody and spine-shivering sequel… Warrington doesn’t miss a beat with this sinister, ghostly tale of some of the darker aspects of the Aetherial world and its denizens’ dealings with humanity.’  —  Publishers Weekly

‘This is the second book in Warrington’s Aetherial Tales series, and while it is only loosely connected to the first volume, it is every bit as evocative and compelling. Gill is an intelligent and prickly protagonist and the mystery at Cairndonan is one of family secrets, great art and magic.’  —  RT Book Reviews

‘A powerful sense of wild landscape and strong characterisation, plus a resonance of ancient magic, make MIDSUMMER NIGHT a truly compelling read.’  —  Liz Williams

‘The plotting of the novel is superb… The world building – both the Scottish remote estate atmosphere and the Aetherial world where a lot of the ‘physical’ action happens – is excellent… As contemporary fantasy set at the intersection of our world and the weird Aetherial one, MIDSUMMER NIGHT (A++) is the complete package and as good as such gets.’  —  Fantasy Book Critic

MIDSUMMER NIGHT lives up to the quality of ELFLAND and is a terrific novel in its own right. Midsummer Night is beautifully written… This book has everything: a big complex plot, emotionally compelling characters, evocative writing, gorgeous settings, a sense of wonder, a bit of humor, great use of tiny little details that might not seem important at first, and a few scenes that will scare your socks off! … the Aetherial Tales are some of the most enchanting fantasies I’ve read in years and I highly recommend them.’  —  Fantasy Literature

‘Warrington writes beautiful prose with lush descriptions.’  —  SF Revu

MIDSUMMER NIGHT is more contained, but every bit as deep and engrossing as its predecessor… a beautifully written book with Freda Warrington’s trademark intriguing and textured characters.’  —  Book Smugglers

    • GRAIL OF THE SUMMER STARS

‘Freda Warrington deftly weaves together contemporary art and ageless magic in this vivid, atmospheric fantasy.’  —  Tricia Sullivan

‘… A classy, beautifully rendered tale that persuasively builds from low-key beginnings into a complex enterprise with real heft, a rich back story and characters that grow with the narrative. A must for existing fans, while being easily accessible to newcomers.’  —  Kirkus

‘I really loved it: great characters, terrific story, very moving and involving.’  —  Kari Sperring

‘If Freda Warrington didn’t write, it would be a crime against humanity. This woman was born to write and tell stories and she does it incredibly well… Warrington has perfected atmosphere and her characters fairly jump off the pages… There’s romance, friendship, betrayal, growth, revelations and much more. Basically, it’s anything anyone could possibly want in a book… [Warrington] know[s] how to write an incredible story full of emotional drama, depth and amazing world building. Freda Warrington doesn’t just write urban fantasy. She’s mastered it.’  —  Bookworm Blues

    • A TASTE OF BLOOD WINE

‘Not merely one of the finest fantasy novels of recent years, but one of the finest ever. Should not be missed.’  —  Brian Stableford (Interzone)

‘… a tale which throbs with lush romanticism.’  —  The Times

‘… a really, really splendid read… It’s a story that plays out over cups of tea and glasses of brandy in the drawing rooms of chic London townhouses and glittering stately homes, and here again Warrington shows her writer’s chops, layering in exquisite period detail. Sometimes the effect is playfully satirical… but more often it’s lusciously picturesque; and, with the characters barrelling around in Hispano-Suizas and the like, it’s all attractively reminiscent of the lux, country house horror of Hammer’s The Devil Rides Out. On this evidence, Freda Warrington is like a cross between Anne Rice and Kim Newman – she has the sweep of one, the cleverness of the other. Titan will be reissuing the other titles in the series throughout the year, and they’re not to be missed.’  —  Starburst

‘… this delicious tale of love, lust and a passionate affair that stretches beyond the grave, is truly delightful. Step forward Charlotte and Karl, a magnificent pairing, and a timeless couple that deserve a place up there with the very best of genre lovers… There’s so much here to love… To be honest, there’s very little herein that I didn’t love… the writing is gorgeous, by turns haunting, lucid, and all-round beautiful… This first instalment is eminently readable, absorbing, and all-round brilliant, a lovely piece of work, and definitely a must-have whether or not you’re a fan of vampires. It’s a book for fiction-lovers and anyone that claims to appreciate the written word, I think. And I for one am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.’  —  British Fantasy Society

‘If you’re interested in vampire novels and want to read quality, please do yourself a favour and read A TASTE OF BLOOD WINE. It’ll remind you of how good, thrilling and romantic vampire novels can be. It has everything you could ever hope for from an entertaining vampire novel: horror, suspense, romance, passion, plot twists, supernatural elements and captivating storytelling. A Taste of Blood Wine is a novel that will appeal to all readers who love vampire fiction. Excellent entertainment!’  —  Rising Shadow

‘Lovely vampire story which is essentially a love story laced with horror.’  —  The Bookseller

‘Channeling the tone of a Gothic romance, Warrington presents a 1920s version of Bram Stoker’s Dracula that focuses on the vampires rather than their stalkers… The first of Warrington’s Blood Wine series will sate those hungry for classically melodramatic vampire sagas.’  —  Booklist

‘Freda Warrington is swiftly becoming one of my favorite authors. I very much enjoyed all her Aetherial Tales novels, especially ELFLAND, but A TASTE OF BLOOD WINE is my now my favorite of all her books… and one of my favorite books period… it has compelling characters and family and relationship drama, but it also manages to avoid the same level of intense melodrama in ELFLAND, though there are some delightfully dramatic moments. It’s compulsively readable with some beautifully written passages, and even though I’m not usually a big fan of vampire lore, I thought what the author did with the myth and the backstory of some of the vampires was quite interesting. I devoured this book, and had a difficult time putting it down, especially since it contained characters I desperately wanted to read more about. A TASTE OF BLOOD WINE is one of those rare treasures I simply cannot imagine my bookshelf without because I can see myself returning to it again and again.’  —  Fantasy Book Cafe

‘A Taste of Blood Wine is romantic. It’s chock full of smoldering description, intrigue and mystery, dark love, and all sorts of gossip and twists and turns.’  —  SF Book Reviews

‘… I would describe A TASTE OF BLOOD WINE as a cross between Anne Rice and some of the more edgy modern paranormal romances, only with Freda Warrington’s incredible voice… This author truly has a gift for story telling… well worth the read!’  —  Not Your Ordinary Book Banter

‘The story itself really has a great mix of fast paced twists and turns and slow burning character development with some good old fashioned sexual intrigue and liberal doses of romance as well. Warrington has managed to pretty much include a bit of everything for every type of vampire fiction fan.’  —  Curiosity of a Social Misfit

‘The plot of this book was very exciting, and although a vampire/human relationship might seem overdone, this book really does reinvent the genre and put a new spin on the stereotypes… This was a great beginning to a vampire series which has made me remember why we are supposed to fear these bloodthirsty creatures of the night. Full of exciting plot twists, romance and betrayals, this series has everything that makes you want to read on and delve into the mysterious vampire world that lurks alongside the human surface.’  —  Book Chick City

A TASTE OF BLOOD WINE is a difficult book to describe since it is fantasy-focused, character-focused, and pulls subjects such as science, religion, immortality, love, and war into the story. In short, I loved it and it made me want more of the world, characters, and writing. I was sorry when it ended and my thoughts kept returning to the story long after I put it down. There is nothing more I could ask for from a book that riveted me from the start and pulled me in further the more I read, and I cannot wait for the next installment to be re-released. Freda Warrington is a truly remarkable author, and A TASTE OF BLOOD WINE showcases her incredible skill with prose, story, character, and fantasy.’  —  Fantasy Book Cafe

‘The writing was fantastic and the descriptions enjoyable and natural.  The vampire mythology is rather different to what we’re usually used to and a distinct religion vs science theme is at play throughout the book. Of course, this is only the first book in what I suppose is a trilogy, but it’s got a lot of awesome scenes and some action-packed moments already (also, it does make for a good standalone)… I particularly liked Illona… This vampire vixen is one of those characters that you love to hate… [and] I did like the supporting characters immensely. Stefan and Pierre and Illona had a naughty side to them that I particularly enjoyed, even though they weren’t present often. I’m hoping that the second book will have more of them in the story…’  —  Killer Aphrodite

    • A DANCE IN BLOOD VELVET
      +

‘This is an extremely well plotted tale of complex, believable characters. Yes, they are vampires and they are often vicious and terrifyingly deadly. But rather than being portrayed as cruel, motiveless monsters, or moping, emo sops, they are essentially human, albeit with pointy teeth and an appetite for haemoglobin. They fight, they love, they are adults and all that that implies. Freda Warrington’s prose is simply stunning, sumptuous and graceful and as seductive as the vampires she portrays. She also has an imaginatively nifty creation theory on how vampires came into existence. Charlotte, especially, will strike a chord with many readers. Here is a real woman dealing with a myriad of dangers and extraordinary events all for love. She is both feminine and tough, a proto Buffy if you will. So if you like the densely plotted, character-driven works of Anne Rice, minus her often irritating purple prose, and you want something very definitely adult (and we don’t mean that in the top shelf of a newsagents way), then this could just be what you’ve been looking for.’  —  Starburst

‘… a tale of lust and passion that survives beyond the grave… More an erotic Wuthering Heights than Interview with a Vampire, Karl and Charlotte are a magnificent pairing that deserves a place up there with the very best of genre lovers… a beautifully written tale… At its centre is a compelling take on religion and the idea of original sin which I found intriguing… Warrington plays with these ideas in such an amazing way. Things get so big and so elaborate – dealing with the notion of God and Angels, and whether or not it’s all real – that you almost think that she couldn’t possibly have an answer that would satisfy the questions she asks, but she does. It is very impressive… if you like your romance novels with a bit of bite you will love this book.’  —  Following the Nerd

‘… conflict is where it’s at with this one — on top of the two rival occultist brothers mentioned above, the vampires have their own mysterious pecking order to argue about, Katerina and Charlotte are fighting for the attentions of Karl, and Violette (the ballerina) has a host of personal demons to battle against. Shortly thereafter everything starts to escalate dramatically in a crescendo of all-round bad news for every plane of existence imaginable, and an elaborate event which feels almost impossible to return from… I would like to reaffirm what I said before about the writing: it’s splendid, and by that I mean the style is genuinely drop-dead beautiful with a compelling elegance and subtly romantic bent — in a word, it’s seductive. In three words: charming, graceful and all-round lush.’  —  British Fantasy Society

‘No finer vampire novel has been published in any century. The true Queen of the vampire novel… [Warrington] is a real writer, possessing a fine sense of timing and a genuine feel for character. The vampires that flit through her book are never less than whole creations… The complex plot is bold, striking and ambitious, using elements of Hebrew mythology, Gothic suspense, eroticism and black humour. There are fused together by language that is lyrical yet clear. The climax of the story… is forceful and moving. Throughout, passages of delicate or savage sensuality leave scented stains on the page, irresistible yet disturbing.’  —  Black Tears Magazine

‘The story neatly and scrupulously takes up the most important loose ends left dangling by the earlier volume, and moves with measured vigour towards a hectically extended climax, building a remarkable crescendo of action and emotion… amply fulfils the promise of its predecessor, and there is no doubt that the series will become one of the literary monuments of the nascent genre to which it belongs.’  —  Interzone

‘… elegantly macabre… some of the writing in this fantasy is horribly mesmerising… This Gothic fantasy is definitely not one to read when you’re in the house alone.’  —  Ms. London

‘… a full-blooded gothique that rips more than bodices… Warrington’s vampire dynasty has the grandeur of a cobwebbed cathedral, and her plot is forged in operatic passions. Treating her subjects with theatrical intensity, she creates lush images, awash in colour and shadow, and the ideal gothic mood is preserved; a dark romance to lose yourself in.’  —  Time Out

‘Sexy, brooding and epic in scope, once you have encountered Warrington’s undead, others will pale by comparison.’  —  British Fantasy Society

    • THE DARK BLOOD OF POPPIES

      ‘A gorgeous grave-throbber.’  —  Time Out

‘Draws the reader into a twilight world of mystic fantasy which is as irresistible as a pulse beat.’ (5/5*)  —  North Eastern Evening Gazette

‘… her most captivating to date.’  —  Peterborough Evening Telegraph

‘A great novel, which is entertainingly frightening, splendidly romantic and erotic, and darkly suspenseful. The true Queen of the vampire novel.’  —  Black Tears Magazine

‘The series is among the best of those spawned by the wave of fashionability which has caught up ‘revisionist’ vampire fiction in the last twenty years. All three volumes have been written with an emotional fervour and vividly Decadent style which are perfectly suited to the subject-matter and all three have maintained a sense of philosophical enquiry which patiently, perceptively and politely raises questions about the reasons for our fascination with the vampire and related mythological figures… The series so far adds up to one of the most striking and most intriguing exercises in modern fantasy fiction; it may yet be further augmented.’  —  Vector

‘The third book in Freda Warrington’s brilliantly evocative Blood Wine Sequence, and for me at least, possibly one of the best… I’ve yet to end any review of one of Freda’s books without referring to the impressive style of her writing — it’s smart, compelling, and simply fabulous… So easy to recommend this, and any of the others in the Blood Wine Sequence.’  —  British Fantasy Society

    • THE DARK ARTS OF BLOOD
      +

‘Dark and sensual and atmospheric, this stunning book continues the story of Karl, Charlotte and their friends, deftly expanding the mythos of vampires and introducing new characters that are sure to become favourites.’  —  Aliette de Bodard

‘Freda Warrington’s vampire novels make for lush, intense dramas involving angst-haunted, fierce undead–lovers, enemies, family members, friends, despots, sometimes religious fanatics or raving lunatics… I remain very impressed by this author and the vampire saga she has crafted.’  —  Vampires.com

‘In the style of authors such as Anne Rice, Warrington has made a tale that beats convention and shows readers what is more likely to happen to vampires than in many other novels. It is great to see that what were once 90’s novels have been re published for a fresh audience who have already indulged in the Twilight novels. The cover art for this one and the other three is striking and beautiful in a gothic way and tells a lot about the kind of novels they are. This is for those who want to curl up with a good book…’  —  Fantasy Book Review

‘I can’t praise this series enough, the author’s writing is poetic, enduring, and consumes you hook, line, and sinker. A superb ending to a marvellous series, and highly recommended.’  —  British Fantasy Society

    • COURT OF THE MIDNIGHT KING
      +

‘Superb fusion of fantasy and historical romance. Freda Warrington has always written lyrical, intensely imagined books across the fantasy spectrum, from vampires to epic trilogies, but in this book she brings along her private passion for the historical figure of Richard III and the combination of dazzling alternative history and smouldering romance is thoroughly enjoyable from first page to last… A pleasure to read.’  —  Justina Robson, author of Keeping It Real

‘Warrington’s prose is literary velvet, luxuriating in colour and texture… Idealised but well realised, THE COURT OF THE MIDNIGHT KING is seductive, sensuous and rich. A bit like Richard himself.’  —  Infinity Plus

‘Beautifully written and heartily recommended.’  —  Medieval Mysteries

‘Lush and beautiful historical fantasy. One of my very favourite historical fantasy novels, this is a lushly written alternate version of Richard III’s history, with magic and romance and a rich sense of period. Gorgeously written, a wonderful book to sink into.’Stephanie Burgis, author of A Reckless Magick

‘[A] fascinating book. You’re not sure if this other version of our world is merely a dark mirror – a slightly different version of our past where the history runs the same, only colored by the supernatural – or if it is an entirely different place. This removes the inevitability inherent in this type of tale, for even though we have no real hope that Richard will survive, there is a tiny, tiny glimmer. That makes this even more of a strong moving story… The imagery in the story, the exploration of a fascinating time in English history and the strong characterization of both fictional and non-fictional characters make this an engaging read, one that despite its fictional aspect makes you wonder what the real truth is about Richard the III, and makes you look at accepted history with new eyes.’  —  SF Site.com

Ms. Warrington accomplishes quite successfully what those who love a literary classic most desire – she affords readers the chance to re-visit old friends and find them recognizable as the people they remembered them to be.
