ICYMI: WIZARD WORLD Duology by Roger Zelazny Available in Korea!

In case you missed it, there are now Korean editions of Roger Zelazny‘s Wizard World novels! Both THE CHANGELING and MAD WAND were published a little while ago by Polar Books, a division of Aladdin, as 체인질링 and 매드완드, respectively. Both novels were translated by Kim Sang-hoon (김상훈). Here’s the synopsis for the first book…

First published in 1989, here’s the English-language synopsis for the first book…

The people had long suffered under Det Morson’s power. When at last, the wizard Mor joined the fight, Det & his infamous Rondoval castle were destroyed.

But the victory wasn’t complete, for the conquerors found a baby amidst the Det’s son, Pol. Unwilling to kill the child, Mor took him to a parallel world where technology ruled & the ways of magic were considered mere legends. He substituted Pol for a baby of the same age, using a spell to persuade the parents to recognize him as their own. In order to retain the balance between the worlds, Mor took the baby from the other world & brought it back to his own, leaving it with a local artisan, Marak

THIS MYSTERY HAS THEM IN A CHOKEHOLD…

Medium turned private investigator Claire Hendricks is excited to embark on her first official case.

Pro-wrestling manager Ken King is convinced that his late father, Eddie, is haunting the gym and show venue in Brighton. Ken hires Claire to help, unaware that her ghost best friend, Sophie, comes as part of the package.

But Eddie is adamant he did not die of natural causes, and tasks Claire and Sophie with bringing his killer to justice.

In the world of pro-wrestling, can they work out what’s real, who’s faking and unmask the killer once and for all?

Here are just a few of the great early responses THE GRAPPLES OF WRATH has received…

‘So much fun! Tight, funny and a well-woven mystery. This is what the world needs right now!’ — Kitty Murphy

‘About as good as modern murder mystery gets. Warm, very funny and absolutely fizzing with wit and originality.’ — Ian Moore, author of Death and Croissants

‘A rollicking, hilarious, breakneck caper that reunites readers with my absolute favourite mismatched and ghostly sleuths. This book will blast away the cobwebs and make you laugh out loud. Perhaps best put in the words of one of her deader characters, Alice Bell is an absolute tonic!’ — Sam Blake

‘I adore Alice Bell’s biting wit, fabulous characters, and the creative set-up of her murder mysteries. THE GRAPPLES OF WRATH is another cracking addition to the series, with the added flair of some unforgettable pro-wrestling characters and a wonderful Brighton backdrop. Come for the spooky humour, stay for the satisfying twists and turns. An absolute delight from start to finish.’ — Kiersten Perrin

‘Just so much fun. I raced through Alice Bell’s third book – characters you can’t help but root for and lots of sneaky twists and turns. I loved it.’ — Heather Darwent

Hilarious, outrageous, and mysterious. The spooky ABC team strikes again, and Alice Bell continues to deliver with every book in this wonderful series.’ — Antony Johnson

‘THE GRAPPLES OF WRATH is a witty murder mystery that made me laugh out loud in places. Claire and her ghostly friend Sophie make an entertaining duo as they set about solving the murder of Eddie King with the help of a cast of vivid characters. The novel is as vivacious, lively and fun as its pro-wrestling setting.’ — Fiona Gartland

The first two novels are out now, published by Corvus in the UK and Vintage in North America.

Grady Hendrix’s WITCHCRAFT FOR WAYWARD GIRLS Wins Goodreads Choice Award!

We’re very happy to share the news (in case you missed it) that WITCHCRAFT FOR WAYWARD GIRLS by Grady Hendrix has won the 2025 Goodreads Choice Award for Best Horror Novel! Published in the UK by Tor Books, here’s the synopsis…

In this twisted, unforgettable horror novel, a group of young girls turn to a dark, ancient magic. From Grady Hendrix, New York Times bestselling author of How to Sell a Haunted House and The Final Girl Support Group.

They call them wayward girls. Loose girls. Girls who grew up too fast. And they’re sent to the Wellwood House in St. Augustine, Florida, where unwed mothers are hidden by their families to have their babies in secret, give them up for adoption, and most important of all, to forget any of it ever happened.

And where every moment of their waking day is strictly controlled by adults who claim they know what’s best for them.

Fifteen-year-old Fern arrives at the home in the sweltering summer of 1970, pregnant, terrified and alone. There, she meets a dozen other girls in the same predicament.

There’s Rose, a hippie who insists she’s going to keep her baby and escape to a commune. Zinnia, a budding musician who plans to marry her baby’s father. And Holly, barely fourteen, mute and pregnant by no-one-knows-who.

Then Fern meets a librarian who gives her an occult book about witchcraft, and power is in the hands of the girls for the first time in their lives. But power can destroy as easily as it creates, and it’s never given freely.

There’s always a price to be paid . . . and it’s usually paid in blood.

Many congratulations, Grady! Here are just a few of the great reviews the novel has received…

‘Hendrix’s genius as a horror writer is his ability to develop complex, human-scale emotional arcs. He gilds these dramas with a glorious, gory layer of monsters and magic, but in his work, the uncanny exists primarily to symbolize real-world issues… At turns frightening, anxiety-producing, infuriating, beautiful and sad, WITCHCRAFT FOR WAYWARD GIRLS is a perfect horror for our imperfect age.’ — New York Times

‘Another stellar novel from Hendrix, a perfectly constructed story that has a strong emotional core, compelling plot, unforgettable characters, and 360 degrees of terror. For fans of horror that empowers the powerless as written by Gwendolyn Kiste and Gabino Iglesias and by Tananarive Due in The Reformatory (2023).’ — Booklist (Starred Review)

‘Hendrix offers an utterly engaging commentary on society and why things are viewed as right versus wrong, along with a generous dollop of magic.’ — Library Journal (Starred Review)

‘A pulpy throwback that shines a light on abuses even magic can’t erase.’ — Kirkus (Starred Review)

‘Hendrix perfectly captures the girls’ youth and loss of innocence, as well as the power of their friendships. This is sure to be another hit for Hendrix.’ — Publisher’s Weekly

‘I read Hendrix because he writes the sort of horror that does more than terrify and scare; it challenges us to reflect on who we are as a society. WITCHCRAFT FOR WAYWARD GIRLS is an enormously entertaining novel, populated with characters you love (I was in tears toward the end of the book), but at its heart, it’s a story that argues for compassion and kindness’ — Locus

‘Perfectly pitched and tragically timed, this exploration of the impact of power and control on young women’s bodies also reflects the horror all around us in 2025, even though the story takes place in 1970. Hendrix employs a more empathic tone than usual and it elevates him as much as it does his characters. Great craft.’ — SFX

‘WITCHCRAFT FOR WAYWARD GIRLS is anger-inducing and utterly compelling. Hendrix delivers a chilling, eye-opening tale that will stick with me for a long time.’ — Fantasy Hive

On January 29th, 2026, Solstice Books are due to publish ON SUNDAYS SHE PICKED FLOWERS by Yah Yah Scholfield! Here’s the synopsis…

Lone Women meets Sorrowland in this sinister and surreal Southern Gothic debut about a woman who escapes her family home to the uncanny woods of northern Georgia and must now contend with haints, ghosts and a literal beast in the woods.

But when an enigmatic woman shows up on her doorstep, Jude’s tentative peace is threatened by the stranger’s presence. The woman is beautiful but unsettling, captivating but uncanny. Katy Nyquist’s A FARM GIRL’S GUIDE TO RULING AS A BLOODTHIRSTY TYRANT Out in Three Weeks!

In three weeks, Podium Entertainment will publish the second novel in Katy Nyquist‘s Scandals of the Gifted series: A FARM GIRL’S GUIDE TO RULING AS A BLOODTHIRSTY TYRANT! Available in paperback, eBook, and audiobook (read by Hollie Jackson), here’s the synopsis…

When Bora swaps bodies with a homicidal duchess, the sweet-tempered wallflower must embrace her inner villainess to survive and save her country.

Within an hour of Bora’s arrival in Arahasnor, she runs into her toxic ex-boyfriend, offends a malicious noblewoman, and narrowly escapes from the city guards. Never the type for adventures — unlike her sister, Holy Maiden Ysabel, who left the family farm and scandalously eloped with Dark Lord Kaine — Bora intends to quickly return home and settle back into her usual role as the plain, boring sister. That is, until there’s a freak magical accident.

Suddenly, Bora finds herself in the life — and body — of the Blood Duchess, a woman who once threatened to have her killed. Now a noblewoman in a kingdom on the verge of economic collapse, the citizenry hangs her in effigy, and her staff spits in her food. It’s too much for a farm girl without a mean bone in her body to handle. Unfortunately, the previous ruler sold Arahasnor to three different foreign powers, and only their crippling fear of the Blood Duchess is holding them off… as long as Bora can successfully embody the ruthless villainess. At least she’s not alone in this bizarre charade; she has the support of Countess Donya, her heroic celebrity crush.

And she’ll need it. Because if Bora’s real identity gets uncovered, she’ll die. But after an assassin named Ari mistakenly targets her for revenge, she strikes a deal with him: she’ll help find the actual duchess in exchange for his protection. As someone who struggles with body-image issues, Bora feels drawn to Ari’s confidence, rakish charm, and gender queerness. But a love triangle may be a distraction she can’t afford, especially when it turns out her sister is among the enemies coming to town to challenge the Blood Duchess.

After spending years obsessing over her weight, the death threats scare Bora less than showing off her extremely generous curves in the Blood Duchess’s low-cut dresses. But if she can embrace the beauty of her new body, she might just learn to love her true self as well. Though, appearances will be irrelevant if the duchess’s adversaries remove her head from her shoulders…

We just wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate Katy Nyquist whose novel, A HOLY MAIDEN’S GUIDE TO GETTING KIDNAPPED is a Best Book Awards Finalist in the Fantasy category! Published by Podium Entertainment, it’s the first novel in the author’s Scandals of the Gifted series. Here’s the synopsis…

A Holy Maiden should never drink, get kidnapped, nor kiss a Dark Lord, but Ysabel is breaking all the rules to escape her fate as a human sacrifice.

In a world where magical powers are commonplace, Holy Maiden Ysabel is revered as a goddess among her people. She’s the only one able to heal the sick and injured with a simple touch. But her spectacular gift comes at a steep price. For each person she saves, she loses a day of her own conscripted life. To add insult to injury, she’s supposed to maintain a pure image even though she’d rather drink and play dominatrix until her sorrows fade away. After the corrupt Head Cardinal Jiang abuses her gift, forbids her from leaving the city, and takes her brother hostage, Ysabel doesn’t dare drag anyone else into her problems—especially since it won’t change her fate. But when Dark Lord Kaine arrives at her clinic doorstep grievously wounded, she’s touched by his refusal to accept her healing lest it cost her another day of her life.

The mysterious and sexy Dark Lord awakens forbidden desires in Ysabel, and the nagging survival instinct she tried to drown with booze and drugs comes back with a vengeance. She’s less impressed, however, when he threatens to sack her city in return for his injuries. Fortunately, she can flirt her way to an alliance against the Head Cardinal instead.

Armed with only a ferociously loyal female bodyguard named Alzira, Ysabel attempts to make the most of her mere months left to live, protect the refugees around her city, prevent a war, and hide her face blindness. But before her life flickers to its sad end, she must decide: either die a proper Holy Maiden or risk it all to run off with Kaine.

The novel is available in paperback, eBook, and audiobook (read by Hollie Jackson). A HOLY MAIDEN’S GUIDE TO GETTING KIDNAPPED was also shortlisted for the 2025 Shirley Jackson Award.

Next month (December 16th), Podium are due to publish the second novel in the series: A FARM GIRL’S GUIDE TO RULING AS A BLOODTHIRSTY TYRANT.

GLASS SOUP

Glass Soup is a loose sequel to Jonathan Carroll’s earlier work, White Apples. The story continues to explore themes of life, death, love, and the metaphysical battle between good and evil.

The novel follows Vincent Ettrich and his lover, Isabelle Neukor, who were central to the plot of White Apples. Having died, Vincent is once again alive, recently resurrected for some mysterious reason. Isabelle, pregnant with their child, discovers that their unborn son is destined to play a crucial role in the cosmic struggle between chaos and order.

The stakes are high as the forces of chaos, represented by a group of powerful and malevolent beings, seek to manipulate the unborn child for their own ends. The narrative weaves through various dimensions and states of existence, blurring the line between the living and the dead. Characters move freely between life and the afterlife, where reality itself seems to be constantly shifting.

In the afterlife, which is depicted as a surreal, dreamlike landscape, Vincent and Isabelle must navigate a series of strange and dangerous encounters. They meet bizarre and memorable characters, each with their own role in the unfolding cosmic drama. Among them is a particularly sinister figure who seeks to disrupt the balance of the universe and plunge everything into chaos.

As the story progresses, the boundary between dreams and reality becomes increasingly porous and dangerous for the couple while they must fight with everything they have to protect their child.
