First published in 1965 as the Nebula Award-winning novella “He Who Shapes” (the first year that award was given), the story was re-issued as the novel DREAM MASTER a year later, published by Ace Books.

His name is Charles Render. He’s a psychoanalyst, a mechanic of dreams, a Shaper. In a warm womb of metal, his patients dream their neuroses, while Render, intricately connected to their brains, dreams with them, makes delicate adjustments, & ultimately explains & heals. Her name is Eileen Shallot, a resident in psychiatry. She wants desperately to become a Shaper, tho she’s been blind from birth. Together, they will explore the depths of the human mind & the terrors that lurk therein.
