RHYTHM OF WAR is #3!

We are very happy to report that Brandon Sanderson‘s latest Stormlight Archive, RHYTHM OF WAR has entered the Sunday Times Bestseller list at #3! The fourth novel in the acclaimed fantasy series, it’s published in the UK by Gollancz. Here’s the synopsis…

After forming a coalition of human resistance against the enemy invasion, Dalinar Kholin and his Knights Radiant have spent a year fighting a protracted, brutal war. Neither side has gained an advantage, and the threat of a betrayal by Dalinar’s crafty ally Taravangian looms over every strategic move.

Now, as new technological discoveries by Navani Kholin’s scholars begin to change the face of the war, the enemy prepares a bold and dangerous operation. The arms race that follows will challenge the very core of the Radiant ideals, and potentially reveal the secrets of the ancient tower that was once the heart of their strength.

At the same time that Kaladin Stormblessed must come to grips with his changing role within the Knights Radiant, his Windrunners face their own problem: As more and more deadly enemy Fused awaken to wage war, no more honorspren are willing to bond with humans to increase the number of Radiants. Adolin and Shallan must lead the coalition’s envoy to the honorspren stronghold of Lasting Integrity and either convince the spren to join the cause against the evil god Odium, or personally face the storm of failure.

Anne Griffin’s אחרי שהכול נאמר charts in Israel!

We’re very happy to report that Anne Griffin‘s debut novel, WHEN ALL IS SAID has landed on the bestseller list in Israel! Published by פן הוצאה לאור (Penn Publishing) as אחרי שהכול נאמר, they shared the news on Twitter yesterday…

WHEN ALL IS SAID has been met with wide praise and support since it was released last year — it hit #1 in Ireland, for example, and was also Newcomer of the Year!

The novel is published in the UK and Ireland by Sceptre, in the US by St. Martin’s Press, and is available in a growing number of translated editions. Here’s the English-language synopsis…

Five toasts. Five people. One lifetime.

‘I’m here to remember — all that I have been and all that I will never be again.’

At the bar of a grand hotel in a small Irish town sits 84-year-old Maurice Hannigan. He’s alone, as usual — though tonight is anything but. Pull up a stool and charge your glass, because Maurice is finally ready to tell his story.

Over the course of this evening, he will raise five toasts to the five people who have meant the most to him. Through these stories — of unspoken joy and regret, a secret tragedy kept hidden, a fierce love that never found its voice — the life of one man will be powerfully and poignantly laid bare.

Heart-breaking and heart-warming all at once, the voice of Maurice Hannigan will stay with you long after all is said.

THE OCTOBER MAN is #3 on the Sunday Times Bestseller List!

Just a very quick note to share the news that Ben Aaronovitch‘s latest novella, THE OCTOBER MAN is #3 on the Sunday Times Bestseller list this week! Published in the UK by Gollancz, it is out now!

Many congratulations to Ben — very well deserved! And, of course, thank you to all the readers who bought the book!

In case you’ve managed to miss any information about the book, here’s the synopsis…

Trier is famous for wine, Romans and for being Germany’s oldest city. So when a man is found dead with, his body impossibly covered in a fungal rot, the local authorities know they are out of their depth.

Fortunately this is Germany, where there are procedures for everything.

Enter Investigator Tobias Winter, whose aim is to get in, deal with the problem, and get out with the minimum of fuss, personal danger and paperwork. With the help of frighteningly enthusiastic local cop, Vanessa Sommer, he’s quick to link the first victim to a group of ordinary middle aged men – and to realise they may have accidentally reawakened a bloody conflict from a previous century. But the rot is still spreading, literally and with the suspect list extending to people born before Frederick the Great solving the case may mean unearthing the city’s secret magical history.

… so long as that history doesn’t kill them first.

THE OCTOBER MAN is also available in North America, published by Subterranean Press.

‘In this enjoyable spin-off from the Rivers of London urban fantasy series, Aaronovitch successfully transfers his blend of the supernatural and humor from England to the Continent as he introduces Tobias Winter, a German police officer who practices magic… Supernatural mystery fans who enjoy more whimsical takes on the paranormal will hope for more of Winter and Sommer.’ — Publishers Weekly

THE OCTOBER MAN introduces Tobias Winter, a sanctioned magic practitioner who investigates the supernatural angles of crimes for the Abteilung KDA (which fans will recognize as the German extension of the British Folly)… Aaronovitch delivers yet another classic detective novel rich with the magical world building accomplished in his previous work.’ — Booklist

‘Winter’s stolidness is a feature rather than a bug. While there are moments of adventure and daring, the story of this crime is both a satisfying whodunit and a primer on how magic works in Deutschland. THE OCTOBER MAN would be an interesting place to enter the Rivers of London world… Those who know the Folly will appreciate this outsider’s view of Grant and Nightingale, as well as learn a bit about how the latter spent the war, while still greatly enjoying Aaronovitch’s work, even if it is set someplace new.’ — Locus

The novel is out now, published in the UK and Ireland by Sceptre. Here’s the synopsis…

WHEN ALL IS SAID is due to be published in the US by Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin’s Press, in March (cover below). ‘A book to savour, and pass on. An absolute joy’ — Sunday Mirror

‘Beautifully written, unhurried and thoughtful, and a character you love from the off’ — Kit de Waal

‘Anne Griffin has fashioned a rare jewel’ — John Banville

‘Masterful storytelling’ — Graham Norton

‘[An] impressively confident debut… Maurice Hannigan emerges as an engaging, compassionate creation’ — Guardian

‘Warning: it is impossible to read the last chapter of this book without weeping copious tears… an ingenious narrative… Maurice’s toast to his late wife that will leave you reeling though. Here is a man who deeply loved a woman but just didn’t know how to show it (often held back by his own parsimony), stifling her in the process until one day she rebels in the smallest but most moving of ways. When you read that page, you might want to get the tissues at the ready…’ — Stylist

‘Pitch-perfect prose… Moving and beautifully written, this is a wonderfully assured debut.’ — Mail on Sunday

‘It’s all beautifully done; a tale told in the plain but poetic prose of a man who recognises the tragic truths gleaned from a life of love and loss. A gem of a book.’ 5* — Sunday Express

‘A proper tear-jerker, but one that will ultimately leave you feeling hopeful.’ — Grazia

‘A beautifully written, perfectly paced, heartfelt novel.’Saga Magazine

If you’d like to hear Anne talk about the novel, she was interviewed for BBC Radio’s Front Row, which you can listen to here.

OATHBRINGER is a bestseller!

In case you missed the news on the weekend, OATHBRINGER is a Sunday Times bestseller! Landing at #6 on the list (and #1 on the New York Times bestseller list), we wanted to take this opportunity to congratulate Brandon Sanderson once again! The novel is the third in Sanderson’s critically-acclaimed Stormlight Archives epic fantasy series. Published in the UK by Gollancz (who made the graphic above), here’s the synopsis…

Humanity faces a new Desolation with the return of the Voidbringers, a foe whose numbers are as great as their thirst for vengeance.

The Alethi armies commanded by Dalinar Kholin won a fleeting victory at a terrible cost: The enemy Parshendi summoned the violent Everstorm, and now its destruction sweeps the world and its passing awakens the once peaceful and subservient parshmen to the true horror of their millennia-long enslavement by humans. While on a desperate flight to warn his family of the threat, Kaladin Stormblessed must come to grips with the fact that their newly kindled anger may be wholly justified.

Nestled in the mountains high above the storms, in the tower city of Urithiru, Shallan Davar investigates the wonders of the ancient stronghold of the Knights Radiant and unearths the dark secrets lurking in its depths. And Dalinar realizes that his holy mission to unite his homeland of Alethkar was too narrow in scope. Unless all the nations of Roshar can put Dalinar’s blood-soaked past aside and stand together — and unless Dalinar himself can confront that past — even the restoration of the Knights Radiant will not avert the end of civilization.

Gollancz has also published the first two novels in the series — THE WAY OF KINGS and WORDS OF RADIANCE.
