THE WELL OF ASCENSION Collectors’ Edition Coming Soon!

Next month, Gollancz are due to publish a collectors’ hardcover edition of Brandon Sanderson‘s second Mistborn novel, THE WELL OF ASCENSION. The new cover is above. Here’s the synopsis…

The Dark Lord is dead, and now a new world can be built.

The impossible has happened. The Lord Ruler is dead has been vanquished. But so too is Kelsier the man who masterminded the triumph. The awesome task of rebuilding the world has been left to his protege Vin; a one-time street urchin, now the most powerful Mistborn in the land.

Worryingly for her, Vin has become the focus of a new religion, a development that leaves her intensely uneasy. More worryingly still the mists have become unpredictable since the Lord Ruler died and a strange vaprous entity is stalking Vin.

As the siege of Luthadel intensifies the ancient legend of the Well of Ascension offers the only glimmer of hope. But no-one knows where it is or what it can do…

Gollancz published a collectors’ edition of the first novel in the series, THE FINAL EMPIRE, last year. Gollancz has publish the entire series in the UK (currently six novels), as well as a host of Brandon’s other novels and novellas.

BANDS OF MOURNING, bound in paper…

sanderson-m6-bandsofmourninguk

The paperback edition of Brandon Sanderson‘s BANDS OF MOURNING is out today in the UK. Published by Gollancz, here’s the synopsis…

The Mistborn trilogy has become a firm favourite with fantasy fans the world over. The imagination that Sanderson brought to the series and his skill at marshalling epic storylines and dramatic action, his ability to create vivid characters made him a natural choice to complete Robert Jordan’s epic wheel of time sequence. But with Mistborn, Sanderson has shown his bountiful talents in his own fiction. Now he returns to the series that made his name with a new story…

The Bands of Mourning are the mythical metalminds owned by the Lord Ruler, said to grant anyone who wears them the powers that the Lord Ruler had at his command. Hardly anyone thinks they really exist. A kandra researcher has returned to Elendel with images that seem to depict the Bands, as well as writings in a language that no one can read. Waxillium Ladrian is recruited to travel south to the city of New Seran to investigate. Along the way he discovers hints that point to the true goals of his uncle Edwarn and the shadowy organization known as The Set.

The new Mistborn books move the series into a richly imagined 19th century analogue world with elements of the wild west mixed with magic and science. It’s a wonderful concoction from a master storyteller.

Gollancz has published all six novels in the Mistborn series (so far): THE FINAL EMPIRE, THE WELL OF ASCENSION, THE HERO OF AGES, THE ALLOY OF LAW, SHADOWS OF SELF and THE BANDS OF MOURNING. Gollancz have also published a pair of stand-alone novels, the Reckoners series, the Stormlight Archive series, and a selection of Brandon’s novellas.

Now Wax and Wayne, both able to use magic, both lawmen from the rough and ungoverned frontier territories, are on the case. All the clues suggest the killer is a rogue kandra — a secretive, almost mythical, figure who acts from the shadows — called Bleeder… and that the governor is her next target. THE FINAL EMPIRE 10th Anniversary Edition out today in the UK!

Sanderson-M1-FinalEmpireUK10

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the UK publication of Brandon Sanderson‘s THE FINAL EMPIRE, Gollancz is releasing a collectors edition hardcover! The cover is above, and here’s the synopsis…

A beautiful, collectible new hardback edition of one of the greatest fantasy novels of the past decade which revolves around a simple question: What if the Dark Lord won?

Brandon Sanderson’s epic fantasy trilogy overturns the expectations of readers and then goes on to tell the epic story of evil overturned in a richly imagined world.

A thousand years ago evil came to the land and has ruled with an iron hand ever since. The sun shines fitfully under clouds of ash that float down endlessly from the constant eruption of volcanoes. A dark lord rules through the aristocratic families and ordinary folk are condemned to lives in servitude, sold as goods, labouring in the ash fields.

But now a troublemaker has arrived and there is rumour of revolt. A revolt that depends on criminal that no-one can trust and a young girl who must master Allomancy — the magic that lies in all metals.

Gollancz has published the six novels that currently comprise the Mistborn series: THE FINAL EMPIRE, THE WELL OF ASCENSION, THE HERO OF AGES, THE ALLOY OF LAW, SHADOWS OF SELF and THE BANDS OF MOURNING.

Brandon Sanderson’s MISTBORN: A SECRET HISTORY Out Now in the UK

Sanderson-MistbornASecretHistoryUK

Gollancz has published a new eBook novella by Brandon SandersonMISTBORN: A SECRET HISTORY is, as the name suggests, a companion novella set in the author’s best-selling and fan-favourite Mistborn series. Here’s the synopsis…

Mistborn: Secret History builds upon the characterization, events, and worldbuilding of the original trilogy. Reading it without that background will be a confusing process at best.

In short, this isn’t the place to start your journey into Mistborn (though if you have read the trilogy – but it has been a while – you should be just fine, so long as you remember the characters and the general plot of the books).

Saying anything more here risks revealing too much. Even knowledge of this story’s existence is, in a way, a spoiler.

There’s always another secret.

The publisher’s website does offer a warning, though: ‘it contains HUGE SPOILERS for the books Mistborn (The Final Empire), The Well of Ascension, and The Hero of Ages. It also contains very minor spoilers for the book The Bands of Mourning.’

The novella will also appear in print in Brandon’s upcoming ARCANUM UNBOUND anthology, due to be published in the UK by Gollancz on November 10th, 2016. We’ll share full details and the cover for the anthology as soon as we have it. Although, an early (possibly draft) audiobook cover image is visible on Gollancz’s website:

THE FINAL EMPIRE — Mistborn #1

What if the Dark Lord won?

A thousand years ago evil came to the land and has ruled with an iron hand ever since. The sun shines fitfully under clouds of ash that float down endlessly from the constant eruption of volcanoes. THE WAY OF KINGSStormlight Archive #1

According to mythology mankind used to live in The Tranquiline Halls. Heaven. But then the Voidbringers assaulted and captured heaven, casting out God and men. Men took root on Roshar, the world of storms. And the Voidbringers followed…

They came against man ten thousand times. To help them cope, the Almighty gave men powerful suits of armor and mystical weapons, known as Shardblades. Led by ten angelic Heralds and ten orders of knights known as Radiants, mankind finally won.

Or so the legends say. Today, the only remnants of those supposed battles are the Shardblades, the possession of which makes a man nearly invincible on the battlefield. The entire world is at war with itself – and has been for centuries since the Radiants turned against mankind. Kings strive to win more Shardblades, each secretly wishing to be the one who will finally unite all of mankind under a single throne.

On a world scoured down to the rock by terrifying hurricanes that blow through every few day a young spearman forced into the army of a Shardbearer, led to war against an enemy he doesn’t understand and doesn’t really want to fight.

What happened deep in mankind’s past?

Why did the Radiants turn against mankind, and what happened to the magic they used to wield?

The first novel in Brandon’s planned 10-book epic. The sequel, WORDS OF RADIANCE, is also out now.

STEELHEARTReckoners #1

Nobody fights the Epics… nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them.

And David wants in. He wants Steelheart – the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David’s father. For years, like the Reckoners, David’s been studying, and planning – and he has something they need. Not an object, but an experience.

He’s seen Steelheart bleed. And he wants revenge.

The first novel in a super-hero series, set in a dystopian future United States. MITOSIS and FIREFIGHT — a novella and sequel, respectively — are also out now.
