Above is the cover for INHERITANCE, which is the second instalment in the CEMETERY GIRL graphic novel series written by Charlaine Harris and Christopher Golden. Published in the UK by Jo Fletcher Books on October 15th, here’s the synopsis…

In this sequel to Cemetery Girl, Calexa begins to understand her forgotten past

She calls herself Calexa Rose Dunhill. She has been living – hiding out – in Dunhill Cemetery ever since someone left her there to die. She has no idea who wants her dead or why, but she isn’t about to hand around for her would-be-killer to finish the job.

Despite her self-imposed isolation among the deceased, Calexa’s ability to see spirits and the memories she receives from them guarantees she’ll never be alone. The only living people she interacts with are Kelner, the cemetery’s cantankerous caretaker, and Lucinda Cameron, an elderly woman who lives in an old Victorian house across the street. With their friendship, Calexa has regained a link to the world beyond tombstones and mausoleums.

Until the night she witnesses a murder that shatters her life: a life now under a police microscope, as their investigation threatens to uncover Calexa’s true identity…

Jo Fletcher Books also published the first book in the series, PRETENDERS. The series is illustrated by Don Kramer.

Charlaine Harris is the author of the bestselling Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood series and also, most recently, the Midnight Texas series, which is published in the UK by Gollancz.

Welcome to Midnight, Texas.

It’s a quiet little town, perched at the junction between Davy Road and Witch Light Road, and it’s easy to miss. With its boarded-up windows, single traffic light and sleepy air, there’s nothing special about Midnight … which is exactly how the residents like it.

So when the news comes that a new owner plans to renovate the run-down, abandoned old hotel in town, it’s not met with pleasure. Who would want to come to Midnight, with its handful of shops, the Home Cookin diner, and quiet residents — and why?

But there are bigger problems in the air. When Manfred Bernado, the newest resident in town, is swept up in a deadly investigation suddenly the hotel and its residents are the least of the towns concern. The police, lawyers and journalists are all headed to Midnight, and it’s the worst possible moment…

Out Tomorrow: New Books by Peter V. Brett and Charlaine Harris!

BrettPV-DC4-SkullThroneUK-Blog

The wait is almost over — tomorrow, THE SKULL THRONE is published in the UK! The fourth novel in Peter V. Brett‘s Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling Demon Cycle series is published by Voyager Books. Here’s the synopsis…

The Skull Throne of Krasia stands empty.

Built from the skulls of fallen generals and demon princes, it is a seat of honour and ancient, powerful magic, keeping the demon corelings at bay. From atop the throne, Ahmann Jardir was meant to conquer the known world, forging its isolated peoples into a unified army to rise up and end the demon war once and for all.

But Arlen Bales, the Painted Man, stood against this course, challenging Jardir to a duel he could not in honour refuse. Rather than risk defeat, Arlen cast them both from a precipice, leaving the world without a saviour, and opening a struggle for succession that threatens to tear the Free Cities of Thesa apart.

In the south, Inevera, Jardir’s first wife, must find a way to keep their sons from killing one another and plunging their people into civil war as they strive for enough glory to make a claim on the throne.

In the north, Leesha Paper and Rojer Inn struggle to forge an alliance between the duchies of Angiers and Miln against the Krasians before it is too late.

Caught in the crossfire is the duchy of Lakton – rich and unprotected, ripe for conquest.

All the while, the corelings have been growing stronger, and without Arlen and Jardir there may be none strong enough to stop them.

Only Renna Bales may know more about the fate of the missing men, but she, too, has disappeared…

The Demon Cycle series also includes THE PAINTED MAN, THE DESERT SPEAR and THE DAYLIGHT WAR. The series also includes the novellas BRAYAN’S GOLD AND THE GREAT BAZAAR and MESSENGER’S LEGACY. All of these books are published in the UK by Voyager Books.

Welcome to Midnight, Texas, a town with many boarded-up windows and few full-time inhabitants, located at the crossing of Witch Light Road and Davy Road. It’s a pretty standard dried-up western town.

There’s a pawnshop (someone lives in the basement and is seen only at night). There’s a diner (people who are just passing through tend not to linger). And there’s new resident Manfred Bernardo, who thinks he’s found the perfect place to work in private (and who has secrets of his own).

Stop at the one traffic light in town, and everything looks normal. Stay awhile, and learn the truth…

New UK Charlaine Harris Editions

Harris-AfterDeadUKPB-BlogToday, we wanted to draw your attention to two new UK editions of Charlaine Harris‘s novels. First up, we have the True Blood HBO series tie-in edition of DEAD EVER AFTER, the final novel in the Sookie Stackhouse series, which is published by Gollancz today. Here’s the synopsis…

This is the final Sookie Stackhouse novel. Who will love, who will live, and who will be dead ever after?

Sookie Stackhouse has one last adventure in store.

Life has taken her from a waitress in Merlotte’s Bar, Bon Temps, to part owner; from social outcast to the heart of her community; from a vampire’s girlfriend to the wife of one of the most powerful vampires in the state.

She has survived explosions, revolutions and attempts on her life. Sookie has endured betrayal, heartbreak and grief… and she has emerged a little stronger, and little wiser, every time.

But with life comes new trials…

The question is, in the end: who will love, who will live, and who will be dead ever after?

Harris-DeadEverAfterUKHBO-BlogAnd secondly, AFTER DEAD, the ‘what happened next’ Sookie Stackhouse anthology is available now in paperback, also published by Gollancz. Here’s the synopsis…

A must-have collection of juicy behind-the-scenes details and illustrations, to answer the ultimate Sookie Stackhouse and True Blood question: What Happened Next?!

DEAD EVER AFTER marked the end of the Sookie Stackhouse novels – a series that garnered millions of fans and spawned the hit HBO television show TRUE BLOOD. It also stoked a hunger that will never die… A hunger to know what happened next.

With characters arranged alphabetically – from the Ancient Pythoness to Bethany Zanelli – bestselling author Charlaine Harris takes fans into the future of their favourite residents of Bon Temps and environs. You’ll learn how Michele and Jason’s marriage fared, what happened to Sookie’s cousin Hunter, and whether Tara and JB’s twins grew up to be solid citizens.

This coda provides the answers to your lingering questions – including details of Sookie’s own happily-ever-after…

The book will feature extensive interior art by acclaimed Sookie artist Lisa Desimini, including a Sookieverse Alphabet, colour endpapers, and several full-page black and white interior illustrations.

Charlaine’s latest novel, MIDNIGHT CROSSROAD, was published in the UK by Gollancz, in May 2014. CEMETERY GIRL: THE PRETENDERS, the author’s first graphic novel, co-written by Christopher Golden, was published by Jo Fletcher Books in January 2014.

Zeno Clients attending FantasyCon 2014!

We’re very happy to report that a number of our clients will be attending this year’s British Fantasy Convention (FantasyCon), to be held between September 5th–7th 2014, at The Royal York Hotel. (This weekend!)

HarrisC-MT1-MidnightCrossroad-BlogFirst up, we’re delighted that Charlaine Harris, New York Times bestselling author of the Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood series of urban fantasy novels, will be a guest of honour at FantasyCon! Charlaine’s latest novel, MIDNIGHT CROSSROAD was published in the UK by Gollancz in May 2014.

Here are our other clients’ events during the convention, all of which occur on Saturday 6th…

  • 10:00am – Anne Lyle and Kari Sperring take part in the ‘Does It Make Sense?’ panel – ‘Economics of fantasy systems. If Smaug holds all the gold and it gets liberated, what does that do to the economy?’
  • Noon – Charlaine Harris in Conversation – interviewed by Adele Wearing
  • Noon – Edward Cox will take part in the ‘Dead Parents, Burned Homesteads and Wicked Stepmothers’ panel – ‘Is it essential to write out the parents before youthful characters can head out on adventures? Are adult figures always unhelpful or malign? Should writers search for ways to keep parents around — or do fantasies of a world without parents fulfil a real need?’
  • 3:00pm – Charlaine Harris will take part in the ‘She Ain’t Heavy, She’s My Sister’ panel – ‘Kirk and Spock, Luke and Han, Frodo and Sam – epic friendships between men are common in fantasy, but friendships between women, or platonic relationships between men and women that stay that way – are much thinner on the ground. The panellists discuss why it matters and examine some of the rare exceptions.’
  • 3:00pm – Edward Cox will take part in the ‘Icky Romance’ panel – ‘Love and sex are powerful motivators and sources of dramatic conflict. However when combined with the conventions of SFF, there’s a lot of potential for cliché, from damsels in distress to dangerous supernatural boyfriends. But how often do complaints about the place of romance in SFF come down to a fear of girl cooties?’
  • 4:00pm – Charlaine Harris will take part in the FanFiction panel – ‘The Fan, the Pro and the Publishing Industry Writers on both sides of the fan/pro divide and writers who straddle it discuss fanfiction. After the success of E.L James, should publishers be searching for more hit writers on AO3 and Fanfic.net? What keeps talented writers away from traditional publishing?’
  • 5:00pm – Stephen Volk will take part in the ‘Horror on the Small Screen’ panel – ‘TV is getting darker, and with the recent success of American Horror Story, Black Mirror and Being Human, are we entering a new golden age of terrifying TV?’
  • 9:00pm – Edward Cox will give a reading from THE RELIC GUILD at the ‘Super Relaxed Fantasy Club’

On Sunday 7th, the British Fantasy Awards will be held at approximately 2:30pm. The full list of nominees can be found here.

Edward Cox is the author of THE RELIC GUILD, due to be published mid-September 2014 by Gollancz in the UK.

Kari Sperring is the author of LIVING WITH GHOSTS and THE GRASS KING’S CONCUBINE, both published by DAW Books.

Unlisted in the events, above, Simon Kurt Unsworth will also be in attendance, and may give a reading from his upcoming novel, THE DEVIL’S DETECTIVE, due to be published in 2015 by Del Rey (UK) and Doubleday (US) – check back later this week and also next week for more news about this exciting upcoming title.

Stephen Volk is a prolific author of horror short fiction, and two of his works are up for British Fantasy Awards this year – WHISTABLE is nominated for Best Novella, and is published by Spectral Press; and MONSTERS IN THE HEART, published by Gray Friar Press, is nominated for Best Collection.

As reported in THR: ‘The Hallmark Movies & Mysteries movie series will become part of its all-new Original Mystery Wheel franchise, with Full House alum Candace Cameron Bure on board to play Aurora “Roe” Teagarden in the series of movies based on Harris’ character. It’s unclear just how many movies Hallmark is currently planning for its franchise, or which book it will start with.’

Details about a UK release for the movies has not yet surfaced, but we’ll be sure to keep you informed as soon as this information is available. In the meantime, the complete Aurora Teagarden series is available now, published in the UK by Gollancz, and was re-issued with new covers last year…

Real Murders is a crime club. A great opportunity for the people of Lawrenceton to get together, drink wine, eat chocolate and talk at length about grisly killings. It’s a strange but harmless pastime. That is, until the murders begin…

One night, librarian Aurora ‘Roe’ Teagarden finds a dead body. Killed in a manner eerily similar to a famous case they were about to discuss. And as more brutal copycat crimes follow, Roe must find the perpetrator. Quickly. Before she becomes the next suspect… or the next victim.
