Simon R. Green’s WHICH WITCH? Paperback Edition Out Now!

Simon R. Green‘s WHICH WITCH?, the third novel in the Holy Terrors series, is out today in a new paperback edition! Published by Severn House in North America (today) and in the UK (on Thursday), here’s the synopsis…

Talented actress Diana and young bishop Alistair, her partner in crime-solving and supernatural sleuthing, face the terrifying curse of the Scottish Play in this witty, creeptastic paranormal mystery from New York Times bestselling British fantasy author Simon R. Green

Miles away from town or city, and centuries away from civilization, three witches dance around a great brass cauldron, singing songs of horror and hatred. The Crone raises her voice to ask: ‘When shall we three meet again?’ … only for the cauldron to emit a thick, poisonous smoke, sending her, and her fellow actresses, fleeing for their lives.

For the director, it’s the last straw. Macbeth is famously a cursed play, but the incident, not the first in a long line of creepy events, makes him wonder if someone – or something – is trying to sabotage the play. The show must go on! But not if the forces of darkness are determined for it not to.

Talented actress Diana Hunt, hired to give her Lady Macbeth, knows just the man to turn to for help: her partner in crime-solving, handsome young bishop Alistair Kincaid, whose help investigating a series of seemingly supernatural murders has earned them the nickname the Holy Terrors. But with evil and black magic wrapping the theatre in darkness, this investigation might cost Alistair and Diana far more than they’re expecting.

Severn House has also published the first two novels in Green’s series — THE HOLY TERRORS and STONE CERTAINTY — in North America and in the UK.

Here are a just a few of the great reviews the series has received so far…

‘A sleek and appealing […] homage to vintage whodunits.’ Kirkus Reviews on THE HOLY TERRORS

‘Perceptive and witty … Great fun’ Booklist on THE HOLY TERRORS

‘Charming sleuths and bubbly dialogue add up to an appealing whodunit. A spirited cozy with a supernatural twist.’ — Kirkus on STONE CERTAINTY

‘The resolution to the mystery is satisfying, no matter the reader’s philosophical bent (skeptics and true believers will be equally happy). Another winner from this highly talented storyteller.’ Booklist on STONE CERTAINTY

‘[F]ans of Green’s Ishmael Jones mysteries will appreciate the supernatural elements’ — Library Journal on STONE CERTAINTY

Coming Soon: THE THREE COFFIN PROBLEM by Lavie Tidhar

This summer, JABberwocky are due to publish THE THREE COFFIN PROBLEM by Lavie Tidhar! A collection of the author’s acclaimed Judge Dee short mysteries, it will release on June 16th. Here’s the synopsis…

Medieval Europe. A world of darkness. Of Gothic castles, isolated monasteries, of monks and knights and things that go bump in the night. A world where vampires can roam at will… At least, as long as they obey the rules! For a vampire may not murder another vampire. Not unless they have a really good reason to, anyway.

Enter Judge Dee. Ancient. Immortal. Ascetic. His cold intellect draws him wherever a mystery is present, and he will rest at nothing to solve the puzzle. Jonathan, the judge’s human assistant, on the other hand, mostly just wants cheese. With bread, if possible. And some pickles would be nice. After all, it’s not easy spending your life in the company of murderous vampires who only see you as a tasty snack…

Their adventures take them from the warm Italian valleys to the heights of the French Alps as they come face to fang with fiendishly complicated puzzles—not the least of which is love! But as they are drawn inexplicably onwards to London, Jonathan wonders what awaits them when they finally arrive—and what choices he may have to make once they get there.

The Judge Dee mysteries were originally published by Reactor.

Here is some early praise of the collection…

‘Sink your teeth into this! THE THREE COFFIN PROBLEM is a whimsical delight about everyone’s favorite vampire detective.’ — Silvia Moreno-Garcia, New York Times bestselling author of Mexican Gothic

‘Does fresh, funny, mystifying, clever and subliminally scary things with the mediaeval mystery genre—simply by adding vampires to the mix. Hugely recommended.’ — Kim Newman, author of Anno Dracula

‘Lavie Tidhar is killing it. I’d say this book is what you’d get if Arthur Conan Doyle got drunk on absinthe and made out with Edward Gorey — but it’s Tidhar all the way down, at his funniest and wittiest. The book’s packed with vampires of all stripes—the backstabbers, the front stabbers, the shocked stab-ees—who are always up for a snack, and the body count is hilariously high. Tidhar had better keep the Judge Dee & Jonathan stories coming or I will hurt somebody.’ — Daryl Gregory, author of Revelator

‘Judge Dee is my favorite vampire, and it’s a joy to watch him work in these stories where he reminds us even a monster must have standards—or else. Along with his reluctant but faithful human servant Jonathan, Judge Dee unravels the unique crimes of the undead and delivers justice, or at least the next closest thing. Vampires are rarely ever this smart, and never this funny. Lavie Tidhar has injected new life into the genre, and I thank him for it.’ — Christopher Farnsworth, author of The President’s Vampire

New DOMINION OF THE FALLEN in Four Weeks! (Plus Pre-Order Campaign!)

In four weeks, North America-based fans of Aliette de Bodard will be able to get the recently-unveiled new editions of the Dominion of the Fallen series! All three novels are getting re-published by JABberwocky, with great new covers by Tara O’Shea, on March 10th.

Here’s the synopsis for the BSFA Award-winning first novel, THE HOUSE OF SHATTERED WINGS

Paris, turn of the century.

The Great War between magical Houses of Fallen angels has devastated the city. The Seine runs black with ashes, the great monuments are blackened ruins, and the Houses still fight. It is a quiet war of alliances and intrigues played in worn drawing-rooms and once-elegant gardens.

Silverspires, once the greatest House, is now nothing more than a minor player in those intrigues.

Philippe, a young man from the colonies of the East, is caught harming a helpless Fallen, and held prisoner in House Silverspires. His path intersects with Isabelle, the naive Fallen he has wounded; Selene, the insecure Fallen head of the House; and Madeleine, a washed-out alchemist addicted to angel drugs.

Together, they will either save the House, or cause its final, irrevocable Fall…

The other two novels in the series are: THE HOUSE OF BINDING THORNS and THE HOUSE OF SUNDERING FLAMES.

But wait, there’s more! To mark the re-release, de Bodard is running a pre-order campaign: if you buy any of the three novels, in any format, you will get an eBook of the author’s short novel OF BIRTHDAYS, FUNGUS, AND KINDNESS. Full details of the pre-order campaign can be found here.

The Dominion of the Fallen series is still available in the UK, published by Gollancz.

Here are just a few of the great reviews the series has received…

‘Will grab readers and force them to pay attention to the amazing writing and the phenomenal characters. de Bodard will sweep you up into the dark and dirty world Paris has become. The characters are very vivid and will stay with you until long after the last page, as each of them is fighting and longing for something. The writing style rendered the characters’ feelings and emotional turmoil beautifully. Watching Philippe and Isabelle work through their “connection” is fascinating and lovely. There’s so much going on, and every character has their own past, their own tragic history. It’s a whirlwind, it’s heartbreaking and it’s one of the best fantasy novels of 2015.’ — RT Book Reviews (Top Pick August 2015) on THE HOUSE OF SHATTERED WINGS

‘A gripping tragedy of forlorn individuals caught up in an angelic version of the Cold War… The story holds up well as a standalone, with clear possibilities but no pressing need for a sequel. De Bodard aptly mixes moral conflicts and the desperate need to survive in a fantastical spy thriller that reads like a hybrid of le Carré and Milton, all tinged with the melancholy of golden ages lost.’ — Publishers Weekly (Starred Review) on THE HOUSE OF SHATTERED WINGS

‘De Bodard… has spun a fascinating Paris of decay and cruelty. Phillippe is a marvel of a character, unreliable as a narrator but compelling in his flaws and his deep well of homesickness.‘ — Library Journal (Starred Review) on THE HOUSE OF SHATTERED WINGS

‘A beautifully crafted novel full of complex characters, set in a post apocalyptic Paris – the image of which is truly haunting… vivid and fast-paced battles and intense political manoeuvrings… with carefully crafted characters both with layers and depth, De Bodard reflects the best and worst of human nature in her novel… an intriguing mystery, elegantly written… Something any avid fantasy reader with an open mind will devour!’ — Guardian on THE HOUSE OF SHATTERED WINGS

‘De Bodard’s writing is very precise, like a well-oiled machine. The tempo is piston perfect, with the prose style having a strong and steady rhythm throughout. The emotional journey is relatively predictable (especially when we get into a marriage sequence), but the narrative is not. In other words, you can pretty much tell that the big emotions are coming, but the how and the why is what keeps you on edge. This is not a villains book; this is a powerful sequel that shows us that the incredibly complex world of the last novel is even more involved than we first expected. Strong stuff which you won’t stop reading till the end.’ — Starburst on THE HOUSE OF BINDING THORNS

‘The author spins a tale that’s rich, emotional and gripping, and delivers that rare thing: a superior sequel… This is an incredibly rich novel. Even as the scheming, double-crossing and action set pieces unfold, the author never loses sight of the people whose lives are on the line… There’s just so much going on here: social commentary, myths and fairytales that often feel under-represented in genre fiction, a gripping genre adventure and an affecting love story. The author has gone from strength to strength and we can’t wait for this story to continue.’ — SciFi Now (5/5*) on THE HOUSE OF BINDING THORNS

‘Truly beautifully balanced: between new and old, birth and death, beauty and ugliness, inside and outside, beginning and, yes, ending. It walks the line, and walks it fine.’ — Tor.com on THE HOUSE OF BINDING THORNS

‘If you’ve loved the previous entries in this series, consider it a must read. If you haven’t, know that it delivers an intoxicating blend of gothic mystery, apocalyptic fantasy, and Vietnamese myth—meaty, singular, and satisfying.’ — B&N Sci-Fi & Fantasy Blog on THE HOUSE OF SUNDERING FLAMES

Brandon Sanderson’s ISLES OF THE EMBERDARK is out Tomorrow in the UK!

The UK edition of ISLES OF THE EMBERDARK is out tomorrow! The latest novel in Brandon Sanderson‘s Secret Projects series, it’s published by Gollancz. Here’s the synopsis…

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson comes a legendary standalone novel that navigates the seas and the stars of a far-future Cosmere. Illustrated by Esther Hi’ilani Candari.

All his life, Sixth of the Dusk has been a traditional trapper of Aviar — the supernatural birds his people bond with — on the deadly island of Patji. Then one fateful night he propels his people into a race to modernize before they can be conquered by the Ones Above, invaders from the stars who want to exploit the Aviar.

But it’s a race they’re losing, and Dusk fears his people will lose themselves in the effort. When a chance comes to sail into the expanse of the emberdark beyond a mystical portal, Dusk sets off to find his people’s salvation with only a canoe, his birds, and all the grit and canniness of a Patji trapper.

Elsewhere in the emberdark is a young dragon chained in human form: Starling of the starship Dynamic. She and her ragtag crew of exiles are deep in debt and on the brink of losing their freedom. So when she finds an ancient map to a hidden portal between the emberdark and the physical realm, she seizes the chance at a lucrative discovery.

These unlikely allies might just be the solution to each other’s crises. In their search for independence, Dusk and Starling face perilous bargains, poisonous politics, and the destructive echo of a dead god.

In this beautiful new tale, Sanderson expands his thrilling novella “Sixth of the Dusk” into a mythic novel of legends, lore, and warring galactic superpowers.

In other Sanderson news, you may have seen that two of his other series — Mistborn and Stormlight Archive — have been optioned by Apple TV! Both of these series, plus other novels by Sanderson, are also published in the UK by Gollancz.

Three New HONEY & ICE Audiobooks Out Now!

In case you missed it, Quest/WF Howes has published three new audiobooks in Shannon Mayer and Kelly St Clare’s Honey & Ice series! These are the fourth to sixth novels in the series: THORN KISSED AND SILVER CHAINS, IVY TOUCHED AND BRONZE BLADE, and BLACK ROSE AND GOLD QUEEN. All three of the books are read by Amanda Dolan. Here’s the synopsis for the first novel…

A continuation in the world of Honey and Ice…with new characters, new loves, and new enemies.

Underhill is my ruthless mother. Her realm is my deadly home. The brutal creatures here are both foe and friend.

But the group of fae that just attacked me? They’re all foe. Dragged from my game of hide-and-seek with a dragon, and my home of twenty-one years, I’m thrust into a weak, ugly realm.

Earth.

Something is taking the fae children of the Irish court, and an Oracle has declared I must find them. Nope. Not my problem. Bye. Except a three-year-old girl they suspect is the next Queen of All Fae was taken too. She’s crucial to the success of my mother’s work and the wellbeing of all, including these simpering fae who’ve forgotten who they are.

Now they have my attention.

The child-snatching darkness flickers in and out of sight, spreading in secret, reaching through cracks and fissures to seize and steal the innocent. Yet I earned each breath in my life by understanding that which seeks to kill me. I will learn the ways of this enemy and find its lair, ideally without the Seelie and Unseelie males who only slow me—even if they’re not quite as stupid as most Earth-dwelling fae.

All I’m sure of is that Underhill is testing me. My mother is testing me in her typical, brutal fashion. And I will not fail.

If you adore Jennifer L. Armentrout, Sarah J. Mass, Holly Black, or Elise Kova, you’ll love this escape into a world of fae where heart-aching romance exists and the odds seem impossible.

Paperback edition of WITCHCRAFT FOR WAYWARD GIRLS out this Week in the UK!

The paperback edition of WITCHCRAFT FOR WAYWARD GIRLS by Grady Hendrix is out this week! Arriving in stores on January 1st, it’s published by Tor Books. Here’s the synopsis for the widely-acclaimed, Goodreads Award-winning novel…

‘I did an evil thing to be put in here, and I’m going to have to do an evil thing to get out.’

In this twisted, unforgettable horror novel, a group of young girls turn to a dark, ancient magic. From Grady Hendrix, New York Times bestselling author of How to Sell a Haunted House and The Final Girl Support Group.

They call them wayward girls. Loose girls. Girls who grew up too fast. And they’re sent to the Wellwood House in St. Augustine, Florida, where unwed mothers are hidden by their families to have their babies in secret, give them up for adoption, and most important of all, to forget any of it ever happened.

And where every moment of their waking day is strictly controlled by adults who claim they know what’s best for them.

Fifteen-year-old Fern arrives at the home in the sweltering summer of 1970, pregnant, terrified and alone. There, she meets a dozen other girls in the same predicament.

There’s Rose, a hippie who insists she’s going to keep her baby and escape to a commune. Zinnia, a budding musician who plans to marry her baby’s father. And Holly, barely fourteen, mute and pregnant by no-one-knows-who.

Then Fern meets a librarian who gives her an occult book about witchcraft, and power is in the hands of the girls for the first time in their lives. But power can destroy as easily as it creates, and it’s never given freely.

There’s always a price to be paid . . . and it’s usually paid in blood.

Here are just a few of the great reviews the novel has received…

‘Scares take a backseat to interpersonal drama in the fun latest from bestseller Hendrix… Hendrix perfectly captures the girls’ youth and loss of innocence, as well as the power of their friendships. This is sure to be another hit for Hendrix.’ — Publishers Weekly

‘[A]n original and nuanced addition to the witch cannon… Another stellar novel from Hendrix, a perfectly constructed story that has a strong emotional core, compelling plot, unforgettable characters, and 360 degrees of terror. For fans of horror that empowers the powerless.’ — Booklist (Starred Review)

‘I read Hendrix because he writes the sort of horror that does more than terrify and scare; it challenges us to reflect on who we are as a society. WITCHCRAFT FOR WAYWARD GIRLS is an enormously entertaining novel, populated with characters you love (I was in tears toward the end of the book), but at its heart, it’s a story that argues for compassion and kindness’ — Locus

‘Perfectly pitched and tragically timed, this exploration of the impact of power and control on young women’s bodies also reflects the horror all around us in 2025, even though the story takes place in 1970. Hendrix employs a more empathic tone than usual and it elevates him as much as it does his characters. Great craft.’ — SFX

‘WITCHCRAFT FOR WAYWARD GIRLS is anger-inducing and utterly compelling. Hendrix delivers a chilling, eye-opening tale that will stick with me for a long time.’ — Fantasy Hive

‘Hendrix offers an utterly engaging commentary on society and why things are viewed as right versus wrong, along with a generous dollop of magic.’ — Library Journal (Starred Review)

‘A pulpy throwback that shines a light on abuses even magic can’t erase.’ — Kirkus (Starred Review)

Grady Hendrix’s WITCHCRAFT FOR WAYWARD GIRLS Wins Goodreads Choice Award!

We’re very happy to share the news (in case you missed it) that WITCHCRAFT FOR WAYWARD GIRLS by Grady Hendrix has won the 2025 Goodreads Choice Award for Best Horror Novel! Published in the UK by Tor Books, here’s the synopsis…

Many congratulations, Grady! Here are just a few of the great reviews the novel has received…

‘Hendrix’s genius as a horror writer is his ability to develop complex, human-scale emotional arcs. He gilds these dramas with a glorious, gory layer of monsters and magic, but in his work, the uncanny exists primarily to symbolize real-world issues… At turns frightening, anxiety-producing, infuriating, beautiful and sad, WITCHCRAFT FOR WAYWARD GIRLS is a perfect horror for our imperfect age.’ — New York Times

‘Another stellar novel from Hendrix, a perfectly constructed story that has a strong emotional core, compelling plot, unforgettable characters, and 360 degrees of terror. For fans of horror that empowers the powerless as written by Gwendolyn Kiste and Gabino Iglesias and by Tananarive Due in The Reformatory (2023).’ — Booklist (Starred Review)

‘Hendrix perfectly captures the girls’ youth and loss of innocence, as well as the power of their friendships. This is sure to be another hit for Hendrix.’ — Publisher’s Weekly
