New Story Bundle, Curated by Lavie Tidhar!

Lavie Tidhar has curated a new Story Bundle! This time, the collection has a Hollywood Horror theme. Here’s Lavie’s introduction to the collection…

Ah, Hollywood! The glitz, the glamour – the monsters! For Halloween this year I thought it would be fun to collect books with some connection to Tinseltown – whether by actors, screenwriters, books about the movies or those in development to become films and TV shows. It’s a mixed bag of fabulous! But all of it unsettling in some way. As the nights draw long and the frost settles on the windows and the wind howls mercilessly outside, what better time to settle down with a blanket and read some tales dark and grim?

So join me as we take a tour through worlds of ancient rockets and the devil, black and white monsters and deep hidden fungus, of vampires, fire-breathing giant lizards, horror film survivors and, of course, a dinosaur detective. Here is a mixture of novels and intelligent non-fiction, anthologies and novellas – the full gamut of the field spelled out in stars against a silver screen.

cue lights!
Camera!
… Aaaaand action!

As you can see, the bundle includes Lavie’s own THE VIOLENT CENTURY. Published by JABberwocky, here’s the synopsis…

A bold experiment has mutated a small fraction of humanity. Nations race to harness the gifted, putting them to increasingly dark ends. At the dawn of global war, flashy American superheroes square off against sinister Germans and dissolute Russians. Increasingly depraved scientists conduct despicable research in the name of victory

British agents Fogg and Oblivion, recalled to the Retirement Bureau, have kept a treacherous secret for over forty years. But all heroes must choose when to join the fray, and to whom their allegiance is owed — even for just one perfect summer’s day.

The cover for THE VIOLENT CENTURY is by the ever-excellent Sarah Anne Langton.

Lavie’s latest novel is MAROR, which is published by Head of Zeus. He also curated and edited the new THE BEST OF WORLD SF, Volume 2, which AdAstra published yesterday.

Lavie Tidhar launches The World SF 3 Bundle!

In case you missed its announcement yesterday: Lavie Tidhar has launched The World SF 3 Bundle! Curated by Lavie, it not only helps highlight SFF talent from around the world, but proceeds also go to a good cause. Here’s what Lavie had to say about the bundle…

I’m delighted to be launching a third World SF bundle in what I can only hope is by now an annual tradition. In the midst of some extraordinary turmoil across the globe, it takes writers from all corners of the Earth to weave profound new truths out of fantasies and paint new futures out of difficult pasts and turbulent presents.

The writers here come from Botswana and Bangladesh; Russia, Italy and France; Mexico, Spain, Israel and India. They are all of them fantastic, and I couldn’t be happier sharing their work with you.

It shouldn’t need saying, and yet it does: Black Lives Matter. I couldn’t think of a better match for this bundle than to partner up with the African Speculative Fiction Society and associated Nommo Awards for our chosen charity. The ASFS is an organization of African writers, editors, comic and graphic artists and filmmakers in the fields of speculative fiction. As spokesperson (and fantastic author) Chinelo Onwualu says on the society site, it’s there to “provide a place where writers, readers, and scholars can come together to find information, connect with each other, and act as watchdogs for their collective interests.”

Lavie Tidhar Curates the BEST OF BRITISH SFF Story Bundle…

Lavie Tidhar has curated an excellent Story Bundle, featuring some of the best of British science fiction! The bundle is available until April 3rd, as a pay-what-you-want/can, and goes to support not only the authors but also Locus Magazine. Here’s a short description from Lavie…

It feels surreal to be writing this as the world is in the grip of a pandemic, and Britain itself, like much of the rest of the world, is on lockdown, in scenes that could only have been dismissed as science fiction a few weeks ago. Or years. How long has it been? I have lost the sense of time by now. As we’re all holding on, many, including the writers here and elsewhere, have been affected. Bookshops and newsstands are closed, publishers are laying off staff and delaying books, and all of us are feeling the pinch. Buying this bundle will help the small publishers included here, from Apex and NewCon to Solaris and Tachyon – the very independent publishers who continue to champion exciting new voices and works.

Finally, this bundle will help, in however small a way, my favourite magazine. Locus was established in 1968, and has become the single most important news source for the SF/F field, offering unparalleled cover, in-depth reviews and author interviews, and so much more. They have won the Hugo Award more times than I can mention. The effect of the shutdown has hit Locus hard. As a non-profit, they rely on a mixture of traditional revenue and on donations. Your purchase of this bundle will raise some much needed cash to help Locus weather the current apocalypse – and we all need Locus.

The bundle includes the following titles:

If you pay at least $15, you will also get the following six books:

  • THE BEST OF MICHAEL MOORCOCK
  • COIL by Ren Warom
  • A MAN LIES DREAMING by Lavie Tidhar
  • THE IRON TACTICIAN by Alastair Reynolds
  • BEST OF BRITISH FANTASY 2018 edited by Jared Shurin
  • BEST OF BRITISH SCIENCE FICTION 2018 edited by Donna Scott
