Ben Aaronovitch Long-listed for a CWA Dagger Award!

We’re very happy to report that Ben Aaronovitch has been long-listed for this year’s CWA Dagger in the Library Award!

The Dagger in the Library is a prize for a body of work by an established writer of crime fiction or non-fiction who has long been popular with borrowers from libraries. It also rewards authors who have supported libraries and their users through taking part in library events.

Ben is the author of the internationally-bestselling and acclaimed Rivers of London/Peter Grant series of novels and novellas — published by Gollancz/Orion in the UK; and in North America by JABberwocky (#1-3), DAW Books (#4-) and Subterranean Press (novellas). While her cousin, police constable and apprentice wizard Peter Grant, is off in the sticks chasing unicorns, Abigail is chasing her own mystery. Teenagers around Hampstead Heath have been going missing but before the police can get fully engaged, the teens return home – unharmed but vague about where they’ve been.

Aided only by her new friend Simon, her knowledge that magic is real, and a posse of talking foxes that think they’re spies, Abigail must venture into the wilds of Hampstead to discover who is luring the teenagers and more importantly – why?

Today, we wanted to share with you two interview clips featuring Ben Aaronovitch. The first, above, is from his Cymera Festival event, in which he discusses supernatural crime fiction with Adam Simcox and Jacky Collins.

The second clip, below, is a short clip from the Graham Norton Book Club, in which Ben is joined by Kobna Holdbrook-Smith to discuss the Peter Grant series (which Kobna has narrated since the beginning).

Gollancz recently published the 10th Anniversary edition of Ben’s first novel in the series, RIVERS OF LONDON. A great collector’s edition for fans of the series, as well as a great place to start for newcomers!

Three Upcoming Events for Ben Aaronovitch!

Just a very quick post with three dates for your diaries. Over the next couple of week, Ben Aaronovitch will be taking part in three events to mark the tenth anniversary of RIVERS OF LONDON! The first novel in his best-selling, acclaimed Peter Grant series, here’s the synopsis (in case you’ve missed it somehow)…

My name is Peter Grant and until January I was just probationary constable in that mighty army for justice known to all right-thinking people as the Metropolitan Police Service (and as the Filth to everybody else). My only concerns in life were how to avoid a transfer to the Case Progression Unit – we do paperwork so real coppers don’t have to – and finding a way to climb into the panties of the outrageously perky WPC Leslie May. Then one night, in pursuance of a murder inquiry, I tried to take a witness statement from someone who was dead but disturbingly voluble, and that brought me to the attention of Inspector Nightingale, the last wizard in England.

Now I’m a Detective Constable and a trainee wizard, the first apprentice in fifty years, and my world has become somewhat more complicated: nests of vampires in Purley, negotiating a truce between the warring god and goddess of the Thames, and digging up graves in Covent Garden… and there’s something festering at the heart of the city I love, a malicious vengeful spirit that takes ordinary Londoners and twists them into grotesque mannequins to act out its drama of violence and despair.

The spirit of riot and rebellion has awakened in the city, and it’s falling to me to bring order out of chaos – or die trying.

Locus, Hugo, and Ignyte nominations for Aliette de Bodard!

In case you missed the great news: Aliette de Bodard has received four Locus Award nominations, a Hugo Award, and an Ignyte Award nomination! Let’s start with the Locus nominations…

Aliette’s has two novellas among the finalists in the Novella Category. OF DRAGONS, FEASTS AND MURDERS, published by JABberwocky, is a stand-alone story set in the same work as the Dominion of the Fallen series. Here’s the synopsis…
