Estonian Edition of RIVERS OF LONDON Out Now!

Ben Aaronovitch‘s acclaimed, internationally-bestselling RIVERS OF LONDON is now available in Estonia! Published by Tänapäev as LONDONI JÕED, it was translated by Sash Veelma. Here’s the synopsis…

The novel is published in the UK by Gollancz, in North America by JABberwocky, and ever-more widely in translation. Here’s the English-language synopsis…

My name is Peter Grant, and I used to be a probationary constable in that mighty army for justice known to all right-thinking people as the Metropolitan Police Service, and to everyone else as the Filth.

My story really begins when I tried to take a witness statement from a man who was already dead…

Probationary Constable Peter Grant dreams of being a detective in London’s Metropolitan Police. After taking a statement from an eyewitness who happens to be a ghost, Peter comes to the attention of Detective Chief Inspector Thomas Nightingale, who investigates crimes involving magic and other manifestations of the uncanny.

Suddenly, as a wave of brutal and bizarre murders engulfs the city, Peter is plunged into a world where gods and goddesses mingle with mortals and a long-dead evil is making a comeback on a rising tide of magic.

The latest novel (#9) in the series is AMONGST OUR WEAPONS (published by Orion in the UK, DAW Books in North America), and the latest novella in the series is WINTER’S GIFTS (published by Orion in the UK, and Subterranean Press in North America).

Roger Zelazny’s THE DOORS OF HIS FACE, THE LAMPS OF HIS MOUTH Out Now in Estonia!

There’s a new Estonian edition of Roger Zelazny‘s short story collection THE DOORS OF HIS FACE, THE LAMPS OF HIS MOUTH! Published by Kirjastus Fantaasia as TEMA SILMNÄO VÄRAVAD, TEMA SUU PÕLEVAD TÕRVIKUD. Here’s the synopsis…

The Estonian edition is translated by Juhan Habicht, Andrus Igalaan, Sash Veelma, Piret Frey and Arvi Nikkarev. The cover is by Liis Roden.

The titular story won the 1966 Nebula Award, and was also nominated for the Hugo Award. Here’s the English-language synopsis…

Here are strange, beautiful stories covering the full spectrum of the late Roger Zelazny’s remarkable talents. In Doors of His Face, The Lamps of His Mouth, Zelazny’s rare ability to mix the dream-like, disturbing imagery of fantasy with the real-life hardware of science fiction is on full display. His vivid imagination and fine prose made him one of the most highly acclaimed writers in his field.

Roger Zelazny’s DOORWAYS IN THE SAND Out Now in Estonia

DOORWAYS IN THE SAND by Roger Zelazny is now available in Estonia! Published as UKSED LÍÍVAS by Kirjastus Fantaasia, here’s the synopsis…

DOORWAYS IN THE SAND, first published in 1976, is available in the UK via Farrago Books. Here’s the English-language synopsis…

The most playful – and arguably most accessible – novel by the master of inventive science fiction.

Humanity is not alone in the cosmos. The aliens have given a precious relic to the people of Earth: star-stone. But the harmony of the galaxy is endangered when they discover that the star-stone has disappeared.

Likeable Fred Cassidy is an eternal undergraduate. All he thinks he knows about the star-stone is that it came to Earth in an interplanetary trade for the Mona Lisa and the British Crown jewels.

When Fred is accused of stealing the cosmic artefact, he is pursued from Australia to Greenwich Village and beyond, by telepathic psychologists, extra-terrestrial hoodlums and galactic police in disguise. Follow him on his adventures as he enters multiple realities, flipping in and out of alien perspectives, through doorways in the sand.

‘Ingenious.’New York Times

‘One of the highest tributes I have ever heard paid to a writer lies in the words of a young lady who said, ‘I knew, halfway through the second paragraph, that I was in good hands.’ Science fiction has produced many such hands, and I genuinely envy those who encounter Roger Zelazny.’Theodore Sturgeon, New York Times Book Review

‘That rarest of creatures in science fiction, the original character, emerges in Roger Zelazny’s DOORWAYS IN THE SAND.’Chicago Daily News

Estonian View of Hokusai’s Mt. Fuji…

We’re happy to report that there is a new Roger Zelazny collection available in Estonia! The main story it includes is the award-winning 24 VIEWS OF MT. FUJI, BY HOKUSAI. Published by Fantaasia as IGIKELTS JA TULI, the book contains the aforementioned novella and also a few other writings (science fiction, fantasy, and non-fiction) by the author. Here’s the synopsis…

The various pieces in the collection are translated by Juhan Habicht, Andrus Igalaan, Piret Frey, and Sash Uusjärv.

First published in 1985 as a short story before being expanded into a novella-length work, 24 VIEWS OF MT. FUJI, BY HOKUSAI won the Hugo Award for best novella (1986). Here’s the English-language synopsis for 24 VIEWS OF MT. FUJI, BY HOKUSAI

A widow makes a pilgrimage in Japan to some of the locations of Hokusai’s views of Mt. Fuji, ultimately attempting to confront her former husband who had become a nearly all-powerful digital being.

The collection also includes PERMAFROST, which won the Hugo Award for best novelette in 1987. Here’s a brief synopsis…

On Balfrost, a planet that experiences decades-long seasons, the Playpoint resort attracts tourists during the warm seasons. In winter it is maintained by an artificial intelligence who was once a man, Andrew Aldon, and a pair of custodians, a man and a woman, who are in suspended animation except for a few days each year when they awake to inspect and maintain the resort. The resort has powerful weapons to keep encroaching ice at bay.

Anne Griffin’s WHEN ALL IS SAID Out Now in Estonia!

Anne Griffin‘s best-selling, critically-acclaimed and award-winning debut novel, WHEN ALL IS SAID is available in Estonia! Published by Eesti Raamat as KUI KÕIK ON ÖELDUD, here’s the synopsis…

Ühel juunikuu laupäevaõhtul tellib Maurice Hannigan Rainford House’i hotelli baaris viis erinevat jooki.

WHEN ALL IS SAID is published in the UK by Sceptre, in North America by St. Martin’s Press, and widely in translation. Here’s the English-language synopsis for the novel…

Five toasts. Five people. One lifetime.

‘I’m here to remember – all that I have been and all that I will never be again.’

At the bar of a grand hotel in a small Irish town sits 84-year-old Maurice Hannigan. He’s alone, as usual -though tonight is anything but. Pull up a stool and charge your glass, because Maurice is finally ready to tell his story.

Over the course of this evening, he will raise five toasts to the five people who have meant the most to him. Through these stories – of unspoken joy and regret, a secret tragedy kept hidden, a fierce love that never found its voice – the life of one man will be powerfully and poignantly laid bare.

Heart-breaking and heart-warming all at once, the voice of Maurice Hannigan will stay with you long after all is said.

Out Now: two new editions of Roger Zelazny’s JACK OF SHADOWS!

There are two new editions of Roger Zelazny‘s classic JACK OF SHADOWS available! The novel, which was first published in 1971, is now available in Estonia and Russia (audio). Read on for more details…

The Estonian edition (cover above) is published by Faataasia as VARJUDE JACK. Here’s the synopsis…

In Russia, the novel is now available as an audiobook, published by Студия озвучания “Глагол” as Джек из Тени

Here’s the English-language synopsis for the novel…

The Earth no longer rotates. Science rules the dayside of the globe. Magic rules the World of Night, and Jack of Shadows, Shadowjack the Thief, who broke the Compact and duped the Lord of High Dudgeon, walks in silence and in shadows to seek vengeance upon his enemies.

First four Vlad Taltos Novels now available in Estonia!

We’re happy to report that the first four novels in Steven Brust‘s Vlad Taltos fantasy series — JHEREG, YENDI, TALTOS and DRAGON — are out now in Estonia! Published by Fantaasia & kirjastus Täheveski, here’s the synopsis for the first novel…

Mul on vastik kaaslane.

First published in 1983, here’s the English-language synopsis for JHEREG

The books recount the adventures of the wisecracking hired killer Vlad, a human on a planet mainly inhabited by the long-lived, extremely tall sorcerers known as the Dragaerans. One of the most powerful bosses in the Jhereg–Dragaera’s premier criminal organization–hires Vlad, one of their guild members, to assassinate Mellar, who stole millions from the Jhereg leadership and fled. Unfortunately, this thief turns out to be protected in a way that makes it difficult for Vlad to do his job without gaining the permanent enmity of a friend. The reader also learns more about Vlad’s past in this, and in other, lives.
