Roger Zelazny’s CHRONICLES OF AMBER Coming to TV!

As reported in Hollywood Reporter a short while ago, the Chronicles of Amber, Roger Zelazny‘s classic fantasy series, is in development for television! Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead, and David Alpert of Skybound Entertainment are teaming up with Vincent Newman Entertainment to bring the influential series to the small screen.

Said Alpert, ‘Chronicles of Amber is one of my favorite book series of all time, and one of my main inspirations for working in film and television. Getting to produce this project is the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. I can’t wait to share this amazing story with a new generation of fans.’ Here’s some information about the series…

Roger Zelazny’s Chronicles follows the story of Corwin, who awakens on Earth with no memory, but soon finds he is a prince of a royal family that has the ability to travel through different dimensions of reality (called “shadows”) and rules over the one true world/dimension known as Amber. The novel series unfolds over ten books with two definitive story arches entitled “The Corwin Cycle” and “The Merlin Cycle.” The series has sold more than fifteen million copies globally and has been credited as one of the main inspirations for Game of Thrones.

Under this tutelage, Sandow eventually became a telepath and “worldscaper”.

GRRM Remembers Roger Zelazny

Roger Zelazny passed away twenty years ago yesterday. We wanted to share some words from George R.R. Martin‘s eulogy…

He was a poet, first, last, always. His words sang.

He was a storyteller without peer. He created worlds as colorful and exotic and memorable as any our genre has ever seen…

“But look around you…” he wrote in Lord of Light. “Death and Light are everywhere, always, and they begin, end, strive, attend, into and upon the Dream of the Nameless that is the world, burning words within Samsara, perhaps to create a thing of beauty.”

Martin organised an evening of readings and discussion about Zelazny’s work, on May 31st. He explained that event here, with more kind words about Zelazny.

Today we can share two more Chinese-language covers, this time for Roger Zelazny‘s LORD OF LIGHT (above) and CREATURES OF LIGHT AND DARKNESS (below). Both books will be published later this year by the Beijing Publishing United Co., Ltd.

LORD OF LIGHT won the Hugo Award and was nominated for the Nebula Award in 1968. The novel is published in the UK by Gollancz, as part of the SF Masterworks series. Here’s the synopsis…

Above you can see the gorgeous covers for the Chinese editions for the first five books in Roger Zelazny‘s classic fantasy series, The Chronicles of Amber. To be published by Dook in China, we think you’ll agree they’re quite striking.

The first five books in the series are NINE PRINCES IN AMBER (安珀九王子), THE GUNS OF AVALON (阿瓦隆之枪), SIGN OF THE UNICORN (独角兽之兆), THE HAND OF OBERON (奥伯龙之手), and THE COURTS OF CHAOS (混沌王庭).
