Upcoming Event: Stevie Finegan at Bradford Literary Festival

Next week, June 30th, you can catch agent Stevie Finegan at the Bradford Literary Festival, where she will be chairing “A STROKE OF THE PEN: REMEMBERING SIR TERRY PRATCHETT”, with Rob Wilkins.

Here’s a description of the event:

Far away and long ago, when dragons still existed and the only arcade game was ping-pong in black and white, a wizard cautiously entered a smoky tavern in the evil, ancient, foggy city of Ankh-Morpork…

Join us for a spell-binding event celebrating the life and work of the award-winning and bestselling author, Sir Terry Pratchett, best known for his Discworld series. Hear from Rob Wilkins, Pratchett’s friend and former assistant, as he recounts his memories with the celebrated author, and shares some of the early short stories that preluded Pratchett’s masterful Discworld series.

These rediscovered tales were written by Pratchett under a pseudonym in the 1970s and 1980s, and while none are set in his beloved world, they hint towards it and the characters he would go on to craft.

Wilkins is now head of the Pratchett literary estate, and author of the only authorised biography of Pratchett’s life, Terry Pratchett: A Life With Footnotes. Wilkins is joined in conversation by literary agent, Stevie Finegan (Zeno Agency), a lifelong admirer of the Discworld.

Ben Aaronovitch introduces Pratchetts GUARDS!

In case you missed it, Ben Aaronovitch has written an introduction to the latest edition of Terry Prachett’s GUARDS! GUARDS!, the eighth novel in the Discworld series and first to focus on Ankh-Morpork’s City Watch and Sam Vimes. The novel is published by Corgi in the UK.

‘Vimes ran a practised eye over the assortment before him. It was the usual Ankh-Morpork mob in times of crisis; half of them were here to complain, a quarter of them were here to watch the other half, and the remainder were here to rob, importune or sell hotdogs to the rest.’

Insurrection is in the air in Ankh-Morpork. The Haves and Have-Nots are about to fall out all over again. Captain Sam Vimes of the city’s ramshackle Night Watch is used to this. It’s enough to drive a man to drink. Well, to drink more. But this time, something is different – the Have-Nots have found the key to a dormant, lethal weapon that even they don’t fully understand, and they’re about to unleash a campaign of terror on the city. Time for Captain Vimes to sober up.

Ben’s latest novel, LIES SLEEPING, was released in paperback last week in the UK (Gollancz) — it is the seventh novel featuring Peter Grant.

His next book is the novella THE OCTOBER MAN, due to be published by Gollancz (UK), Subterranean Press (North America) and DTV (Germany).
