This Week: Ben Aaronovitch Event at Waterstones Canterbury!

This Friday, October 29th, Waterstones Canterbury will be hosting Ben Aaronovitch for an event celebrating the 10th Anniversary of RIVERS OF LONDON! The event will see Ben chatting with Mark Stay, and begins at 6:30pm. More details can be found, and tickets bought here.

THE DESERT SPEAR, the highly-anticipated new novel from Peter V. Brett, is out in just one month! (Well, it’s actually out in a little less than a month: August 3rd!) So, there’s still time to pre-order a copy. This is just a quick post to let people know, in case they missed it, that Waterstones have signed copies of THE DESERT PRINCE, Peter V. Brett‘s highly anticipated next novel, available for pre-order!

As 2020 draws closer to its end, we’re happy to report that some of our authors’ books are starting to appear on Best Of lists!

It’s been a particularly good week for Brandon Sanderson‘s RHYTHM OF WAR and William Gibson‘s AGENCY , both of which have appeared on Waterstones’ Best Of list and are also in the final round of the Goodreads Choice Awards!

Book Tour Details for Ben Aaronovitch’s FALSE VALUE Release!

To celebrate the release of FALSE VALUE, the highly-anticipated eighth Peter Grant novel, Ben Aaronovitch is embarking on an extensive book tour in the UK!

Waterstones Running a Competition for Anne Griffin’s WHEN ALL IS SAID! (UK only)

To celebrate the upcoming release of Anne Griffin‘s critically-acclaimed debut, WHEN ALL IS SAID, Waterstones are running a great competition! Full details can be found on the bookseller’s website, but on offer is a bottle of Midleton Very Rare Irish whiskey, a tasting set and six Master of Malt tasting glasses.

You may be asking yourself what prompted the competition. Well, during WHEN ALL IS SAID, main character Maurice Hannigan says:

The war has begun

For time out of mind, bloodthirsty demons have stalked the night, culling the human race to scattered remnants dependent on half-forgotten magics to protect them.

Two heroes arose — men as close as brothers, yet divided by bitter betrayal. Arlen Bales became known as the Painted Man, tattooed head-to-toe with powerful magic symbols that enable him to fight demons in hand-to-hand combatand emerge victorious. Ahmann Jardir, armed with magically warded weapons, called himself the Deliverer, a figure prophesied to unite humanity and lead them to triumph in Sharak Kathe final war against demonkind.

But in their efforts to bring the war to the demons, Arlen and Jardir have set something in motion that may prove the end of everything they hold deara Swarm. Now the war is at hand, and humanity cannot hope to win it unless Arlen and Jardir, with the help of Arlen’s wife, Renna, can bend a captured demon prince to their will and force the devious creature to lead them to the Core, where the Mother of Demons breeds an inexhaustible army.

Trusting their closest confidantes, Leesha, Inevera, Ragen, and Elissa, to rally the fractious people of the Free Cities and lead them against the Swarm, Arlen, Renna, and Jardir set out on a desperate quest into the darkest depths of evilfrom which none of them expects to return alive.

Voyager has published the first four novels in the series: THE PAINTED MAN, THE DESERT SPEAR, THE DAYLIGHT WAR and THE SKULL THRONE. The publisher has also released Brett’s novellas set in the world (more to come): THE GREAT BAZAAR & BRAYAN’S GOLD and MESSENGER’S LEGACY.

Lavie Tidhar Event at Hatchards Tomorrow!

lavie-blogCelebrating the release last week of A MAN LIES DREAMING, World Fantasy Award-winning author Lavie Tidhar will be hosted by Hatchards* in London for a discussion about his new novel.

A MAN LIES DREAMING is published in the UK by Hodder Books, who have World English Rights for the novel. The novel has already received some great reviews from the press and fellow authors. Here’s the synopsis…

Deep in the heart of history’s most infamous concentration camp, a man lies dreaming. His name is Shomer, and before the war he was a pulp fiction author. Now, to escape the brutal reality of life in Auschwitz, Shomer spends his nights imagining another world – a world where a disgraced former dictator now known only as Wolf ekes out a miserable existence as a low-rent PI in London’s grimiest streets.
