UK Print Edition of Jack Campbell’s IN OUR STARS Out Now!

For those of you who prefer to read in print, we’re happy to report that Jack Campbell‘s IN OUR STARS is now out in paperback in the UK! (The eBook edition of the first book in the author’s new The Doomed Earth series was published a couple of weeks ago.) Published in the UK by Titan Books, here’s the synopsis…

When the destruction of Earth causes a time rift, one ship is thrust back in time to decades prior. The semi-disgraced naval officer Kayl Owen is sent from the Earth Guard ship Vigilant to investigate.  He finds one person alive, one person whose DNA analysis reveals to have some non-human DNA, a person who his superiors say isn’t human.

That’s not how Kayl Owen sees it. He thinks Lieutenant Genji of the near future Unified Fleet — the future successor of Earth Guard — is every bit a person. And more, the knowledge she brings from the future might hold the key to saving Earth from destruction.

Owen, Genji and everything they know is deeply threatening to a lot of people, and the two of them need to survive each day to get to the next and save the future for everyone.  But will changing Earth’s future erase Genji?

Here are just a few of the reviews the novel has already received…

‘Campbell juggles a lot here, with military cover-ups, alien first encounters, and ruminations on what it means to be human studding the sprawling plot… This series is off to a good start.’Publisher’s Weekly

‘Jack Campbell’s IN OUR STARS is old fashioned science fiction in the best possible way; taking a good hard look at the present through the lens of the future.’Tanya Huff

‘Space Opera works best when it’s operatic. Big and bold, dark and dramatic, characters and concepts that are cheerfully off the scale. IN OUR STARS is all of these things, with an extra helping of mayhem, just to keep things tasty.’Simon R. Green

‘An outstanding kickoff to a new series, IN OUR STARS is a heartfelt character study wrapped in a riveting action movie. It delivers everything I want out of sci-fi: fun tech, relatable characters, well-earned camaraderie, and deeply felt stakes. The bond between the two protagonists is inspiring—just two competent professionals who bring out the best in each other while striving to save the world from certain destruction. The contagious optimism and breakneck pace kept me glued to the page, and I’m eagerly awaiting the next installment!’J. S. Dewes

‘With IN OUR STARS, Jack Campbell shows once again why he’s one of the best SF writers working today.’ — Michael Mammay

Here are just a couple of great reviews for the earlier books in the series…

BOUNDLESS begins a third series, Outlands, in the bestselling Lost Fleets saga, and being the thirteenth book in no way jinxes the steady hand of Campbell’s command of top-notch space opera.’ — Booklist

‘Thirteen volumes in, the Lost Fleet series maintains both its ability to put characters through the rigors of military action and to keep its central figure from losing his guileless outlook and unpretentious charm. This is another winner.’ — Publisher’s Weekly on RESOLUTE

Torin Kerr wants to enjoy THE PRIVILEGE OF PEACE, but the universe has other ideas…

THE PRIVILEGE OF PEACE, the third novel in Tanya Huff‘s acclaimed Peacekeeper series is out today in the UK! Published by Titan Books, here’s the synopsis…

Former space marine Torin Kerr returns for one final adventure to save the Confederation in the last book in the military science fiction Peacekeeper trilogy.

Warden Torin Kerr has put her past behind her and built a life away from the war and everything that meant. From the good, from the bad. From the heroics, from the betrayal. She’s created a place and purpose for others like her, a way to use their training for the good of the Confederation. She has friends, family, purpose.

Unfortunately, her past refuses to grant her the same absolution. Big Yellow, the ship form of the plastic aliens responsible for the war, returns. The Silsviss test the strength of the Confederation. Torin has to be Gunnery Sergeant Kerr once again and find a way to keep the peace.

Titan Books has published the previous two novels in the series; as well as the Confederation series, which is set just before (and also features Torin Kerr).

Here are some of the reviews the series has received so far…

‘Huff’s skill at worldbuilding is impressive and, over the course of the Confederation and Peacekeeper series, the author has created a complex, multi-cultural setting in which to explore issues of colonialism and the trauma of war. This is a great series for fans of the TV show Farscape (Torin has definite Aeryn Sun vibes) or Ann Leckie’s Imperial Radch series.’Den of Geek on THE PRIVILEGE OF PEACE

‘Huff’s ability to communicate complex personal dynamics and deep trust through what feels like casual banter establishes the character of the team well for the reader, and solid stretches of reconnaissance and well-tuned moments of violence show Huff’s military SF skills still on point.’ Publishers Weekly on AN ANCIENT PEACE

‘Huff weaves a fast-paced thriller bristling with treachery and intrigue. Fans of military science fiction will enjoy this tense adventure and its intricately constructed setting.’ Publishers Weekly on A PEACE DIVIDED

‘Tanya Huff knows how to tell a rip-roaring, military sci-fi mystery story like few others.’ B&N SciFi & Fantasy Blog on A PEACE DIVIDED

‘It’s a fun novel, pacey, full of banter, with plenty of space for more sequels. Torin Kerr the Justice Department Warden approaches her work and her life differently to Torin Kerr the Marine, but once a Gunnery Sergeant, always a Gunnery Sergeant. Explosions abound!’ Tor.com on A PEACE DIVIDED

The situation is further complicated by the fact that the mercenaries holding them are a mix of Confederation and Primacy forces, and are looking for a weapon with power beyond anything previously known. Torin must contend with the politics of peace that have added members of the Primacy former enemies to her team. She will have to sift through shifting loyalties as she discovers that the line between us and them is anything but straight.

Jack Campbell’s GENESIS FLEET sets sail tomorrow in the UK!

Tomorrow, Titan Books will publish Jack Campbell‘s latest novel, VANGUARD! The first novel in the Genesis Fleet prequel series, here’s the synopsis…

Earth is no longer the centre of the universe. After the invention of the faster-than-light jump drive, humanity is rapidly establishing new colonies. But the vast distances of space mean that the protection of Earth’s laws no longer exists. When a nearby world attacks, the new colony of Glenlyon turns to Robert Geary, a former junior fleet officer, and Mele Darcy, once an enlisted Marine. They must face down warships with nothing but improvised weapons and a few volunteers – or die trying.

The only hope for lasting peace lies with Carmen Ochoa, a “Red” from anarchic Mars, and Lochan Nakamura, a failed politician, and their plan for a mutual alliance. But if their efforts don’t succeed, space could become a battlefield between the first interstellar empires…

The Genesis Fleet series is a prequel to Campbell’s best-selling Lost Fleet series, which (along with a number of other series) is also published in the UK by Titan Books.

Before Iceni and Drakon can put their house in order, they must deal with an even greater threat. An enigma warship has appeared and vanished near a Syndic colony. HuffT-C4-ValoursTrialUK-Blog

Hot on the heels of the UK publication of THE HEART OF VALOUR, we’re delighted to be able to share with you the new cover for Tanya Huff‘s VALOUR’S TRIAL, the fourth novel in the adventure- and action-packed science fiction Confederation series! As with the first three novels in the series, this will be published by Titan Books, and is due to hit shelves on April 4th 2014.

Here’s the synopsis…

‘It’s a great read, a powerful surviving scenario made particularly fascinating by the interactions of multiple species working together.’  —  Locus

‘Filled with both action scenes and personal drama, this sf adventure belongs in most libraries.’  —  Library Journal
