Tanya Huff’s A PEACE DIVIDED lands tomorrow!

Tanya Huff‘s anticipated new Peacekeeper novel is published by Titan Books tomorrow in the UK! Continuing the sci-fi adventures of Torin Kerr, here’s the synopsis for A PEACE DIVIDED

Ex-Gunnery Sergeant Torin Kerr drew together an elite corps of friends and allies to take on covert missions that the Justice Department and the Corps could not officially touch.

When the scientists doing a preliminary archaeological dig on a Class Two planet are taken hostage, Torin’s team is sent to free them. The situation is further complicated by the fact that the mercenaries holding them are a mix of Confederation and Primacy forces, and are looking for a weapon with power beyond anything previously known. Torin must contend with the politics of peace that have added members of the Primacy — former enemies — to her team. She will have to sift through shifting loyalties as she discovers that the line between “us” and “them” is anything but straight.

Titan Books also published the first in the series, AN ANCIENT PEACE, as well as Huff’s first Torin Kerr series, the five-book Confederation sequence.

Here are some reviews for the Peacekeeper series…

‘Huff’s ability to communicate complex personal dynamics and deep trust through what feels like casual banter establishes the character of the team well for the reader, and solid stretches of reconnaissance and well-tuned moments of violence show Huff’s military SF skills still on point.’  —  Publishers Weekly

‘The action hits the planet running, Huff kicks it into high gear.’  —  RT Book Reviews

‘[I] thoroughly enjoyed this fast-paced and fun “secret mission” type story, and look forward to reading the next book in the series. I definitely recommend AN ANCIENT PEACE for fans of military sci-fi.’  —  SF Revu

‘This book can be read as a straight-up adventure (with obvious nods to Indiana Jones along the way), and on that level it’s very entertaining. But there’s more to it, if you pause to consider… I’m really looking forward to seeing where the next book goes. I think Torin Kerr has become my favorite of Huff’s characters, which is saying something.’  —  Fantasy & Science Fiction

‘Book two of the Peacekeeper series is a fun outing with familiar characters on a remote world that may hold the key to ending all the threats that sentient plastic holds.’  —  RT Book Reviews on A PEACE DIVIDED

Huff’s Enchantment Emporium urban fantasy series, and her stand-alone fantasy THE SILVERED, are also published in the UK by Titan.

Hear THE DARK ARTS OF BLOOD!

Freda Warrington‘s THE DARK ARTS OF BLOOD is available in audio! Published by Audible, it is the fourth novel in the author’s beloved Blood Wine series. Here’s the synopsis…

In 1920s Switzerland, vampire lovers Charlotte and Karl are drawn into turmoil as Godric Reiniger, a local filmmaker and activist with sinister ambitions, begins his rise to power. Meanwhile, fiery dancer Emil achieves his dream to partner the legendary ballerina and vampire Violette Lenoir until his forbidden desire for her becomes an obsession. Rejected, spiralling towards madness, he seeks solace with a mysterious beauty, Fadiya. But she, too, is a vampire, with a hidden agenda. When Karl and Charlotte undertake the perilous journey to rescue Emil, they unearth secrets that threaten the very existence of vampire-kind.

All four novels in the series are published in audio by Audible, and in print by Titan Books (in the UK and US): A TASTE OF BLOOD WINE, A DANCE IN BLOOD VELVET, and THE DARK BLOOD OF POPPIES. Audible has published many of Freda’s extensive backlist of fantasy and horror novels.

Here are just a few of the great reviews the series has received…

‘Dark and sensual and atmospheric, this stunning book continues the story of Karl, Charlotte and their friends, deftly expanding the mythos of vampires and introducing new characters that are sure to become favourites.’ Aliette de Bodard on THE DARK ARTS OF BLOOD

‘Freda Warrington’s vampire novels make for lush, intense dramas involving angst-haunted, fierce undead–lovers, enemies, family members, friends, despots, sometimes religious fanatics or raving lunatics… I remain very impressed by this author and the vampire saga she has crafted.’ Vampires.com on THE DARK ARTS OF BLOOD

‘In the style of authors such as Anne Rice, Warrington has made a tale that beats convention and shows readers what is more likely to happen to vampires than in many other novels. It is great to see that what were once 90’s novels have been re published for a fresh audience who have already indulged in the Twilight novels. The cover art for this one and the other three is striking and beautiful in a gothic way and tells a lot about the kind of novels they are. This is for those who want to curl up with a good book…’ Fantasy Book Review on THE DARK ARTS OF BLOOD

‘I can’t praise this series enough, the author’s writing is poetic, enduring, and consumes you hook, line, and sinker. A superb ending to a marvellous series, and highly recommended.’ British Fantasy Society on THE DARK ARTS OF BLOOD

‘Not merely one of the finest fantasy novels of recent years, but one of the finest ever. Should not be missed.’ Interzone on A TASTE OF BLOOD WINE

‘… a tale which throbs with lush romanticism.’ The Times on A TASTE OF BLOOD WINE

‘… a full-blooded gothique that rips more than bodices… Warrington’s vampire dynasty has the grandeur of a cobwebbed cathedral, and her plot is forged in operatic passions. Treating her subjects with theatrical intensity, she creates lush images, awash in colour and shadow, and the ideal gothic mood is preserved; a dark romance to lose yourself in.’ Time Out on A DANCE IN BLOOD VELVET

‘The third book in Freda Warrington’s brilliantly evocative Blood Wine Sequence, and for me at least, possibly one of the best… I’ve yet to end any review of one of Freda’s books without referring to the impressive style of her writing — it’s smart, compelling, and simply fabulous… So easy to recommend this, and any of the others in the Blood Wine Sequence.’ British Fantasy Society on THE DARK ARTS OF BLOOD

Charlie Human KILLs BAXTER in Germany

KILL BAXTER, he second novel in Charlie Human‘s critically-acclaimed Baxter Zevcenko series, is out today in Germany! Published by Tor Germany/Fischer Verlage as KILL BAXTER: SHOWDOWN IN CAPE TOWN, here’s the synopsis…

Tor Germany has also published APOCALYPSE NOW NOW, the first novel in the series.

Both novels have been published in the UK by Arrow, and in the US by Titan Books (covers below). The first novel has also been published widely in translation. Here’s the English-language synopsis for KILL BAXTER

AND HE THOUGHT THE HARD PART WAS OVER…

The world has been massively unappreciative of sixteen-year-old Baxter Zevcenko. His bloodline may be a combination of ancient Boer mystic and giant shape-shifting crow, and he may have won an inter-dimensional battle and saved the world, but does anyone care? No.

Instead he’s packed off to Hexpoort, a magical training school that’s part reformatory, part military school, and just like Hogwarts (except with sex, drugs, and better internet access). The problem is that Baxter sucks at magic. He’s also desperately attempting to control his new ability to dreamwalk, all the while being singled out by the school’s resident bully, who just so happens to be the Chosen One.

But when the school comes under attack, Baxter needs to forget all that and step into action. The only way is joining forces with his favourite recovering alcoholic of a supernatural bounty hunter, Ronin, to try and save the world from the apocalypse. Again.

Here’s some of that aforementioned critical acclaim…

‘Think Lauren Beukes meets Neil Gaiman, with bounty hunters.’ Wired (UK)

‘It’s mad, dark, irreverent and wonderfully twisted in all the right ways.’ Lauren Beukes on APOCALYPSE NOW NOW

‘I don’t even know how to describe reading this book, so just look at my wide eyes and my silently mumbling mouth and take my shell-shock as a good sign that you need to read this book right now.’ Chuck Wendig on APOCALYPSE NOW NOW

‘With a wild imagination and savage glee, Charlie Human throws us into a school yard battle zone that’s part teenage wasteland, part Lovecraft fever dream. Rock and Roll High School meets the apocalypse.’ Richard Kadrey on APOCALYPSE NOW NOW

‘Brilliantly entertaining.’ British Fantasy Society

‘A riot — a firebomb of a novel, exploding with sick humour, violence and depravity… it’s never less than very funny, and the ongoing question of Baxter’s sanity adds a degree of mystery. There’s warmth here, too – you’ll likely feel sympathy for Bax by the end.’ SFX Magazine on APOCALYPSE NOW NOW

‘Like its predecessor, KILL BAXTER is laugh out loud funny and fiendishly creative. The anti-Hogwarts of Hexpoort gives Human the opportunity to riff more directly on pop culture, but so do the porn addict support groups, pretentious fashion shows and possessed nerds. The further we delve into the supernatural world and its politics, with its psychotic fairies and violent luckdragons, the more engrossing the book becomes. Baxter himself is as entertaining a companion as ever, struggling with heartbreak and desperately trying to go against his own nature and be a good person, even as he travels through his own psyche with his psychosexual development funk band guides to fulfil his potential… tighter and more focused, and just as gloriously insane. Dark, mad, imaginative, and hilarious; KILL BAXTER is a joy.’ SciFiNow

‘Just as the author punctures holes in the twee/charming class system of magical boarding schools, Human also goes after many of the other traditions of epic fantasy. The warrior-mages of KILL BAXTER struggle with PTSD. The “rescued” girlfriends don’t feel particularly swoony or appreciative. The quest to master “the power within” involves a funk band. Baxter himself sees himself as the center of the universe (saviour for all, chosen one, etc. etc.) – but is also wise enough to seek out professional therapy for that sensation. APOCALYPSE NOW NOW was a very clever, extremely dark book with an underpinning of real insight into the teenage mind. KILL BAXTER is a step beyond – a viciously sharp adventure that combines explosive entertainment with cutting satire; the best traditions of contemporary fantasy with the truth of what it actually means to be contemporary. The odd book that should appeal to those who love fantasy and those that hate it. And I would heartily recommend it either way.’ Pornokitsch

‘The antidote to Harry Potter is back… a lively elaboration of the mad as pants brand of South African urban fantasy advanced in APOCALYPSE NOW NOW…  everything Human’s debut did well, KILL BAXTER does better… the setting, again, is superlative… the way in which South African folklore figures into the fiction is fantastic—the dreamwalking bits are abundantly brilliant — and KILL BAXTER is a markedly more brutal book… more than a match for Charlie Human’s addictive debut. This, then, is urban fantasy on magical meth. You will want more.’ Tor.com

Jack Campbell’s GENESIS FLEET sets sail tomorrow in the UK!

Tomorrow, Titan Books will publish Jack Campbell‘s latest novel, VANGUARD! The first novel in the Genesis Fleet prequel series, here’s the synopsis…

Earth is no longer the centre of the universe. After the invention of the faster-than-light jump drive, humanity is rapidly establishing new colonies. But the vast distances of space mean that the protection of Earth’s laws no longer exists. When a nearby world attacks, the new colony of Glenlyon turns to Robert Geary, a former junior fleet officer, and Mele Darcy, once an enlisted Marine. They must face down warships with nothing but improvised weapons and a few volunteers – or die trying.

The only hope for lasting peace lies with Carmen Ochoa, a “Red” from anarchic Mars, and Lochan Nakamura, a failed politician, and their plan for a mutual alliance. But if their efforts don’t succeed, space could become a battlefield between the first interstellar empires…

The Genesis Fleet series is a prequel to Campbell’s best-selling Lost Fleet series, which (along with a number of other series) is also published in the UK by Titan Books.

Titan Unleashes the HELL-HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES…

Today, the second novel in G.S. Denning‘s Warlock Holmes series hits shelves! Published by Titan Books, here’s the synopsis for THE HELL-HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES

The game’s afoot once more as Holmes and Watson face off against Moriarty’s gang, the Pinkertons, flesh-eating horses, a parliament of imps, boredom, Surrey, a disappointing butler demon, a succubus, a wicked lord, an overly-Canadian lord, a tricycle-fight to the death and the dreaded Pumpcrow. Oh, and a hell hound, one assumes.

The first novel in the series, A STUDY IN BRIMSTONE is also published by Titan Books. Here are some of the great reviews the first novel has received so far…

‘Douglas Adams meets Arthur Conan Doyle in this delightfully absurd collection of six cases… hilarious.’Publishers Weekly

‘The characters are so likable that they can pause their absurd antics to contemplate prejudice and privilege without missing a beat or falling out of their outrageous world. Denning has a knack for smooth writing that carries the action along and a keen sense for how to set up a joke. He imagines his world with gusto, lavishing the reader with hilarious details like Holmes’ accordion playing and a gang of Baker Street Irregulars made up of horrifying were-rats… Funny, clever, and entertaining.’Kirkus

Some ideas are so obvious and clever that you wonder why it’s taken the world so long to come up with them… Warlock Holmes: A Study in Brimstone is clever and funny supernatural silliness. Dennings has twisted and warped Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s world, to make it strange and sinisterly magical, and yet he’s somehow managed to preserve the core charm of the original stories… If you ever wondered how much better Sherlock’s would be if people could hurl hellfire at each other, well this one is for you.’Starburst

‘As with Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, much of Denning’s shtick revolves around finding new riffs on Arthur Conan Doyle’s original tales. But rather than simply trading up the spyglass for a smartphone, WARLOCK HOLMES goes balls out by, for example, presenting the Baker Street Irregulars as shape-shifting rats and Inspector Lestrade as a vampire who drinks neat nosebleed.’ SFX

Marie Brennan’s WITHIN THE SANCTUARY OF WINGS out today in the UK!

The final volume in Marie Brennan‘s fan-favourite, critically-acclaimed Memoirs of Lady Trent is out today! Published in the UK by Titan Books, here’s the synopsis for WITHIN THE SANCTUARY OF WINGS

The conclusion to the thrilling memoirs of Lady Isabella Trent and her legacy of dragon evolutionary research and anthropological adventures

After nearly five decades (and, indeed, the same number of volumes), one might think they were well-acquainted with the Lady Isabella Trent — dragon naturalist, scandalous explorer, and perhaps as infamous for her company and feats of daring as she is famous for her discoveries and additions to the scientific field.

And yet–after her initial adventure in the mountains of Vystrana, and her exploits in the depths of war-torn Eriga, to the high seas aboard The Basilisk, and then to the inhospitable deserts of Akhia — the Lady Trent has captivated hearts along with fierce minds. This concluding volume will finally reveal the truths behind her most notorious adventure — scaling the tallest peak in the world, buried behind the territory of Scirland’s enemies — and what she discovered there, within the Sanctuary of Wings.

Here are just a couple of the early reviews the novel has received…

‘Brennan delights with this fifth and final memoir… Lady Trent is the perfect heroine for this history-flavored fantasy romp.’Publishers Weekly

‘A thoroughly absorbing conclusion to this refreshingly different and consistently intriguing pentalogy.’Kirkus (Starred Review)

The first four novels in the series are also published in the UK by Titan: A NATURAL HISTORY OF DRAGONS, THE TROPIC OF SERPENTS, VOYAGE OF THE BASILISK and IN THE LABYRINTH OF DRAKES. The first novel in the series is currently part of Amazon UK’s Kindle Monthly Deal.

Campbell’s GENESIS FLEET: VANGUARD launching soon!

VANGUARD, the first novel in Jack Campbell‘s Genesis Fleet series is due to be published by Titan Books in May 2017! A prequel series to his best-selling Lost Fleet saga, here’s the synopsis…

A new action-packed military science fiction series that explores the founding of the Alliance… and the men and women who fought to create it.

Earth is no longer the center of the universe.

After the invention of the faster-than-light jump drive, humanity is rapidly establishing new colonies. But the vast distances of space also mean that the old order of protection and interstellar law offered by Earth has ceased to exist.

When a nearby world attacks, the new colony of Glenlyon turns to Robert Geary, a young former junior fleet officer, and Mele Darcy, a former enlisted Marine. With nothing but improvised weapons and a few volunteers, Geary and Darcy must face down warships and armored soldiers — or die trying.

As battles rage and pirates take an increasing toll throughout the colonies, the only hope for lasting peace lies with Carmen Ochoa, a “Red” from the anarchic world of Mars, and Lochan Nakamura, a failed politician. They have a plan: to lay the foundations for mutual defense that could someday grow into an Alliance. But if their efforts fail, the growing power of aggressor worlds could turn regions of space founded on freedom into battlefields between the first interstellar empires…

Titan Books has also published Campbell’s Lost Fleet, Lost Stars, Beyond the FrontierJAG in Space and Stark’s War series.

Here’s just a small sample of the aforementioned critical acclaim for the series (there has been a flood of it)…

‘Brennan’s world-building is wonderfully subtle, rendering a familiar land alien with casual details. Fans of fantasy, science, and history will adore this rich and absorbing tale of discovery.’ Publishers Weekly (Starred Review) on A NATURAL HISTORY OF DRAGONS

‘Lady Isabella Trent is a wonderfully charming female-lead who is willing to break from the gender roles of the era and do as her heart desires, study dragons… Marie Brennan does an incredible job of writing in multiple voices… Brennan expertly maintains the balance that makes this commentary fun and informative, without pulling you from the actual story. It’s a brilliant touch that brings a level of authenticity to the memoir-style… the interior illustrations, also done by Todd Lockwood, are just as stunning.’ Fantasy Faction on A NATURAL HISTORY OF DRAGONS

‘Uncompromisingly honest and forthright as the first, narrated in Brennan’s usual crisp, vivid style, with a heroine at once admirable, formidable and captivating. Reader, lose no time in making Isabella’s acquaintance.’ Kirkus (Starred Review) on THE TROPIC OF SERPENTS

‘The third installment in Lady Trent’s series of reflective memoirs does not disappoint. Isabella’s familiar audacity as she circles the globe in search of unfamiliar dragons – with her son by her side, no less – makes for an enchanting story. And the romantic interest she finds in Suhail is a much welcome addition.’ RT Book Reviews on THE VOYAGE OF THE BASILISK

VOYAGE OF THE BASILISK combines grand adventure with fascinating insights into the principles behind a world that could almost be our own.’ Locus

‘Solid fourth book of the Lady Trent series… It’s a time of changes for the main character, but this mix of scientific and fantastic creatures remains in fine form.’ Publishers Weekly on IN THE LABYRINTH OF DRAKES

He’s also desperately attempting to control his new ability to dreamwalk, all the while being singled out by the school’s resident bully, who just so happens to be the Chosen One. But when the school comes under attack, Baxter must join forces with his favourite recovering alcoholic of a supernatural bounty hunter, Ronin, to try and save the world from the apocalypse. Again.

Titan has now released both novels in MMPB in the US. Both have also been published in the UK by Arrow, and there are a growing number of international and translated editions. Here is just a small selection of praise KILL BAXTER has received…

‘Like its predecessor, KILL BAXTER is laugh out loud funny and fiendishly creative… The further we delve into the supernatural world and its politics, with its psychotic fairies and violent luckdragons, the more engrossing the book becomes.

‘The antidote to Harry Potter is back… a lively elaboration of the mad as pants brand of South African urban fantasy advanced in APOCALYPSE NOW NOW… everything Human’s debut did well, KILL BAXTER does better… the setting, again, is superlative… the way in which South African folklore figures into the fiction is fantastic — the dreamwalking bits are abundantly brilliant — and KILL BAXTER is a markedly more brutal book… more than a match for Charlie Human’s addictive debut. This, then, is urban fantasy on magical meth. You will want more.’ Tor.com

‘Moments of glorious distaste come thicker and faster in KILL BAXTER, with goblin fights and hysterical trips into the protagonist’s warped psyche filling the pages at every turn. The supporting characters are more memorable this time… Even after brushing with the apocalypse, this emerging series hasn’t lost its frenzied bite. KILL BAXTER is leaner, meaner and shows an unrestrained zest for dizzying, carnivalesque violence… this is an irresistible ride which has lost all control of the brakes. Either cling to the handrail or be splattered in the dust.’ Starburst
