Three Weeks: North American Edition of Lavie Tidhar’s THE CANDY MAFIA

Lavie Tidhar‘s acclaimed first novel for younger readers, CANDY, is due to be published in North America in three weeks! Peachtree Publishing will release the novel as THE CANDY MAFIA, with illustrations by Daniel Duncan, on September 1st. Here’s the synopsis…

In a city where candy is a crime and sugar is scandalous, Nelle Faulker is a 12-year-old private detective looking for her next client.

When notorious candy gangster Eddie de Menthe asks for her help to find a missing teddy bear, Nelle Faulkner is on the case. But as soon as the teddy turns up, Eddie himself goes missing! As a seemingly innocent investigation unravels into something more sinister, Nelle and her friends quickly find themselves swept up in a shady underworld of sweets smugglers, back alley deals, and storefront firebombs.

If Nelle has any hope of tracking down her missing client, first she’ll have to unmask the true faces behind the smuggling ring. Can Nelle and her friends find a way to take the cake? Or will they come to a sticky end…?

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory meets Bugsy Malone in this page-turning mystery from World Fantasy Award-winning author Lavie Tidhar. With moody spot illustrations by Daniel Duncan, readers will be sucked into the action-packed narrative as Nelle pulls the curtain back on the black market candy rings.

The novel is published in the UK by Scholastic (with illustrations by Mark Beech), and has also been translated into German, French, Czech, Polish and Italian.

We’re happy to report that Lavie Tidhar has a story included in Newcon Press‘s THE BEST OF BRITISH FANTASY 2019, which is out now! Specifically, his story DEM BONES is included in the anthology. Here’s the book’s synopsis…

In a city where candy is a crime and sugar is scandalous, Nelle Faulker is a 12-year-old private detective looking for her next client.

When notorious candy gangster Eddie de Menthe asks for her help to find a missing teddy bear, Nelle Faulkner is on the case. But as soon as the teddy turns up, Eddie himself goes missing! As a seemingly innocent investigation unravels into something more sinister, Nelle and her friends quickly find themselves swept up in a shady underworld of sweets smugglers, back alley deals, and storefront firebombs.

Lavie Tidhar’s NEW ATLANTIS is a Sturgeon Memorial Award Finalist!

We are delighted to report that Lavie Tidhar‘s novella NEW ATLANTIS is a finalist for this year’s Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award!

Originally published in the May/June 2019 issue of Fantasy & Science Fiction Magazine, it was recently published as an eBook via the JABberwocky eBook Program. Available from all major eBook retailers, it also has a superb new cover by Sarah Anne Langton.

Here’s the synopsis…

When a mysterious message arrives from vanished New Atlantis, a restless Mai undertakes the perilous journey to its drowned isles. But the journey is long and hard: through the Blasted Plains and the ancient cities of Tyr and Suf, through shipwreck and wilderness.

For this is a world where ants develop inexplicable weapons, where a lonely robot lives surrounded by cats in the ruins of old Paris, and where floating coral islands host sleeping sentience. Mai’s journey takes her by land, sea and air to the islands of New Atlantis, and to the nightmare prison buried underneath old London.

On her way she will find heartbreak and love – and a new life, awakening.

Lavie Tidhar’s BY FORCE ALONE Unfortunately Delayed

Today, Tor Books was supposed to publish Lavie Tidhar‘s highly-anticipated and already-critically-acclaimed new novel, BY FORCE ALONE  in North America. Unfortunately, given the current environment, the novel has been pushed back to August 11th. We’ll post another reminder closer to the new release date.

ADLER #3 and #4 unfortunately delayed…

Given the ongoing disruption resulting from the Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic, the next issues in Lavie Tidhar‘s acclaimed comic series ADLER have been delayed.

Titan Comics has pushed back the release of the third issue (pictured above) to August 12th; and the fourth issue (covers below) is now scheduled for September 16th.

Irene Adler and her team of Victorian heroines encounter a mysterious villain, even more dangerous that Moriarty!

The fifth issue is (tentatively) due to be published on October 14th. The first two issues are, of course, still available in print and digital.

If you still want a Tidhar-fix, then we highly recommend BY FORCE ALONE, his latest novel, which is out now in the UK published by Head of Zeus. (August in North America, via Tor Books.)
